Congrats to Bronco Bama and Joe Wonder

Whatever side your on - Obama, Romney, someone else - it's becoming clear that we're giving away our freedom in America.

Congrat to Obama/Biden for winning the game. The Electoral College has essentially created a strategy game for the uber rich. If you don't have $2B (or to be fairer, influence of $2B) you are a slave to the system. We are nothing but a bunch of slaves/pawns in their game.

The game's quite brilliant if you look at it objectively. These uber rich guys have to pretend to care about you and me - a lie which is so hurtful in a sense that our only reasonable response is to put our head in the sand and pretend it isn't so. At the same time, they must paint a contrived truth about others in a way that we can openly believe it. The painting becomes their own self portrait masterpiece. That makes no sense and perfect sense simultaneously.

I've always been a little jealous of people that can lie to your face and con you into liking them in the same breath. I also feel bad because these guys are pawns in the system as well.

I guess it really can't be avoided. Every action a gov't takes essentially removes a personal freedom. It's a paradox of sorts. Every single vote, bill, idea, etc. that comes from the gov't enslaves us to the system and pulls us deeper into dependency that we'll never escape.

This stuff really has almost 0 impact on you or me. We can overcome any obstacle in our lifetimes. But the tiny little waves the gov't makes today will impact future generations in 50-100 years from now. We can be selfish and find happiness and a path that makes sense that keeps us content. We can live above this. But everything will come back to bite the future.

It's sad. Who cares? It matters. It doesn't. I can't make sense of something that's the most important thing in the world yet there's no rational reason to feel anything other than apathy.

The crux of the problem is that any action taken to fix the problems almost always leads to more complications. I'm starting to understand why all empires fall/fail eventually.

The only thing that makes sense is that things eventually just become too complex and you've gotta stop re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic. And you just have to start over fresh.

Anyone think we can get a do-over in our lifetime?

agree completely Flip. The monster has gotten too big. Unfortunately, I don't think real change can come to America without a major government changing event, and not one that pits us all together against someone else, but rather one that has neighbors against neighbors.

Great post Flippy. And DRock just so you know you have convinced me to actually vote in the next election...and I don't vote. It will be for a independent...and I will try to convince everyone I can to vote independent.

Gary Johnson got 1.1M+ votes or 1%. That's a lot when you think about it. 1% of the population going through the trouble of voting knowing full well GJ had no chance of winning. That's real dedication.

I received 0 calls from Gary supporters. He spent almost nothing to get 1%.

I told everyone I know that I voted for him. And just about everyone told me they would have considered him if he had a chance of winning.

Next election could be a good opportunity given that the Republican party seems like it may be toast. Add in Shawn's vote and we get a little closer.

There is a big movement among younger people for liberty. It's not as pronounced as what Obama did in 2008, because it is not in the media like the Democratic party is, but it is out there. It's all over facebook and twitter and talk among my friends and people in the 18-35 range.

We're all sick of the system that has developed...none of us trust any of them...and while our parents may vote for what they know, we are ready to vote for what we want.

I just looked up the Libertarian website to find more about the party and I'm sold.

I like their slogan - The Party of Principle - Maximum Freedom, Minimum Government. That sums up how I feel about politics.

    good stuff here too.

Maybe they should change their slogan to the Party of Reason. They're more Socially Liberal than the Democrats and more Fiscally Conservative than the Republicans.

It's kinda like the Republicans and Democrats both lost their way when they started chasing votes and trying to appeal to everyone. I like the Libertarian stance. It's about the Principle rather than an appeasement of lazy people.

The Republicans have gone overboard to appease the Religious Right to such an extreme that they infringe upon everyone's social freedom. It seems a little ironic that we were founded on religious freedom and we now have a political party that wants to control people's choice through religion.

On the flip side, we've got the Democrats attacking our financial freedoms and teetering on Socialism that threatens our free market democracy.

I'm sure there's gotta be a catch to the Libertarians, but I haven't found it yet. I was glad the isidewith.com opened my eyes to a party/candidate I agree with at such a high level.

If they can just keep doubling the number of votes their candidates get, it'll take another 24 years to get a majority. GJ is planning to run in 2016. That's where I'm voting again.

Maybe I'll volunteer some time to the Libertarians. I'm having fun right now learning more. If we can get a Libertarian candidate in 24 years, it'll be just in time to cancel Social Security and Medicare for us

Remember...a new party potentially just needs to get to 34% to be better than the other two.

I hope Rand Paul runs in 2016. He can carry on what his father has started, but bring a younger, more toned down personality to it, and one who can appeal more to the mainstream republicans in a way that can continue to win people over.

Maybe we'll get something sooner since we only need 34%.

I do think they need to tone it down somehow. But I worry watered down could lead us right back to where we are with the D & R parties.

For example, GJ was using the example of Portugal decriminalizing all drugs leading to drug abuse going down by 50%. But then he was trying to appeal to more D + R's by saying we should start by legalizing marijuana. That's better than what we have today, but it does take a little of the principle out of decriminalizing all drugs.

I understand sometimes you need to take baby steps before you walk. But given the current system, I also worry if we just take baby steps, the other parties will never let us walk or run and they'll try to control everything and ultimately end up ruining it and take us back to where we started. Not sure if that makes complete sense. It feels like someone needs to take an extreme position.

Someone said we needed Malcolm X in order to get people to hear MLKJr as reasonable.

I don't see the Libertarian party as being possible. They are too socially liberal for many and too small govt for the entitlement crowd. I love their political side, but can't stand their social anarchy angle.

It fits great with younger people. We don't care if people are gay. We're not afraid of people smoking some weed. We have friends of all colors.

And we don't like people telling us what to do or trying to take our money and spend it for us the way they think we should spend it.
