Le'Veon Bell (foot) has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury, and the Steelers are unsure if he will require surgery.

He has no timetable for a return. FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Steelers are "hoping" Bell can avoid surgery, but "won't be sure until he gets it double checked." NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Bell could be out "some time," and that the team is "pretty frustrated." Bell obviously needs to be removed from draft boards until we get a clearer idea of his timeline, but even a best-case scenario would likely have him missing 4-6 weeks. It's a tremendous disappointment for a player who was locked in as an RB2. As it is, the Steelers will likely now turn to a committee of replacement-level talents Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and La'Rod Stephens-Howling.

Well that's just freaking great. Bell lasted all but six carries and now we're back to the Redman and Dwyer show.

We all don't know. Ed B claims it wasn't a Lisfrance And Jay and the others say it could be. None of us know who is wrong until the team report comes out then I will officially believe it then.

And this was my concern. Lets just collectively hope for no need of surgery.

Le’Veon Bell expected to miss 6-8 weeks with foot injury

The news isn’t great on Steelers rookie running back Le’Veon Bell, but it’s not as bad as it could have been.
Following the reports that
Bell suffered a Lisfranc injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Bell is expected to miss six weeks. Jason La Canfora of CBS put Bell’s recovery time at six to eight weeks.
If that is indeed Bell’s recovery time, the Steelers wouldn’t exactly be happy about it, but it could be worse: The Lisfranc injury that Bell suffered can cause players to miss much longer than eight weeks.

A second-round draft pick, Bell had been expected to become a major part of the Steelers’ offense. That may still happen, but the Steelers will open the season with Bell on the sideline and
Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and LaRod Stephens-Howling as their running backs.

Yep! We seemed to be cursed with injuries to key players the last couple of years. I guess the odds are just catching up with us.

I don't want to see Dwyer in anymore preseason games and risk injury or we would be stuck with Redman and no one else.

I understand the training staff probably couldn't help with this, but given all the injuries we've had, should the Steelers be looking at their conditioning/strength and training staffs with closer scrutiny? Seems like our guys have been dropping like flies for the last couple years.

I've been thinking Dwyer will start all along. But after seeing Howling, I think a case can be made for him getting a lot of carries.

I told everybody this yesterday that if....he had a little less severe injury that Speath had, then he would be out a minimum of 6-8 weeks, and look at this...I was right. But, that time frame is ONLY if he has the surgery. If he doesn't, then 90 % of the time when athletes refuse surgery, they will ALWAYS never fully recover from that type of injury, and usually always have reaccuring issues with it. So BEST case scenario...to me is Bell won't be ready to fully play all out til...week 8 at the earliest. Which means, we should just make Dwyer our starter. Give him the 27-33 carries a game EVERY GAME no matter what, and go from there.
