The Dolphins would have loved to grab Menelik Watson after losing Jake Long in free agency, but unfortunately they got leapfrogged twice and no longer have that option. This pick was obtained from Indy in exchange for former 1st round CB Vontae Davis, so they could use this pick to help out at corner, where they also lost Sean Smith to free agency this offseason. Although they did sign Brent Grimes, who is a solid corner when healthy, there are still lingering questions about his health, so reinforcements are needed. There is a corner still available who is somewhat of a medical miracle himself. Projected as a possible high pick, this player nearly died a few months ago when he tore his inferior vena cava (which brings blood back to your heart) in a collision at practice. However, he was able to make it back to the point that he ran a tremendous 40 time at his pro day and thoroughly impressed all of the scouts in attendance.

The Miami Dolphins are proud to select:

Houston CB D.J. Hayden
