We’re through a couple of weeks of free agency and that means that the market of available players has thinned to the point where cost-conscious teams can start shopping for veteran help at low prices.

The Cowboys are going to be doing just that this week. Bryan Broaddus of the team’s website reports that safety Will Allen and linebacker Justin Durant will be visiting the team on Monday.

Allen has spent the last three years with the Steelers and started seven times last season as Troy Polamalu battled injuries. The Cowboys hope to have Barry Church healthy, but there’s not much else on hand after releasing Gerald Sensabaugh earlier this offseason. Safety’s a spot where the Cowboys need to improve this offseason, something signing Allen would not accomplish on its own.

Durant has started 26 games over the last two years for the Lions and recorded 103 tackles for the team last season. The Cowboys need someone to go with Sean Lee and Bruce Carter in their new 4-3 look, something Durant could provide if the price is right.
