Don't re-write history here, Crash. Lewis was immature and not very good early on, which is why he didn't play. Don't you remember his temper tantrum against the Broncos?
It's not just Lewis. It's EVERYONE. Jason Worilds when healthy only plays when Woodley or James can't.

Ziggy Hood played well for Aaron Smith in 2010, but what happened when 2011 started? Hood sat on his ass and Smith gobbled up the snaps.

When Nick Eason is a rush specialist and Worilds isn't? That's a problem.

There's no reason for these guys to sit and rot. NONE.

Rookies didn't for Capers, rookie's didn't for Tim Lewis.

The complexity of the "scheme" is a cop out. LeBeau just hates playing young players.

I would have done a lot to try to get Sean Smith at the money he got in Kansas City (3-years, $18 million with $11 million guaranteed). That was a great bargain in my opinion as I think he a top-notch, physical corner who has length, can make plays and tackle. I consider Smith better than Ike Taylor right now but since we restructured Taylor last year, we can't really swap contracts when we see a bargain.

Frustrating we can't even fit a $4 million cap charge into out books when an opportunity presents itself to really bolster our secondary like this. This is a buyers market in the CB group and we're too cap strapped to take advantage. Instead, we overpay William Gay and Larry Foote.

I would have somehow tried to fit Dan Conner + Sean Smith into our cap than Larry Foote + William Gay + David Johnson. The money's not all that different.

on the plus side, maybe this frees up a little room for victor butler. Maybe the FO is more comfortable with the secondary depth than the LB depth. Just have to wait and see. I think ike is good for 2 more seasons and I think its clear now the FO favors cortez allen to lewis. I bet he gets an extension after this year. Now if he blows up and we can't afford/lose him then we have a real problem. I thjnk he is restricted next year, but it would be wise to lock him up sooner rather than later if he is the future #1 as we believe.

I don't like losing emerging players in their mid 20s either, but you have to hope that there is a plan in place.

You managed to address just about every position on the D put the position at issue here - corner. Why do you think the Steelers drafted Brown and Allen? They thought that Lewis was a bust. His slow development was on him, not on the scheme, coaching staff, etc.

I would hope it's because the NFL is evolving into a passing league and you need quality corners to deal with spread offenses and multiple WR sets.

But knowing LeBeauPa he still thinks it's 1988.

No surprise here, I anticipated this would happen another reason I picked CB months ago at 17. They could go in another direction but when your picking this early CB is a premium position you can't pass up.
The only exception for me anyway is I want Eifert more than Rhodes, averaging 21 a game didn't cut it last year and it won't this year, we need this offense fixed and I mean NOW!

The way to fix the offense is to value the QB you have.

The priority has to be scoring points. Not time of possession and defensive rankings.

maybe the lights come on with curtis brown and everything falls into place.

a year from now this might look like a solid move.
