Iím gonna protect him from himself (James Harrison). He and Will Allen are too old to be working right now. - Mike Tomlin
The thing is, Ben doesn't shrug off many tacklers.
The KEY of Ben, is he sees the pressure BEFORE they get their hands on him.
Ben can dominate for the next 6 years.
But they have to value him first, and stop trying to relive the past.
Wow, like zero interest in JH out there. And by the way, this writer is an idiot. JH was playing hurt all year but as he started getting better, he was sacking the QB again. This moron doesn't realize that.
Frankly, King's report isn't the least bit surprising. While Harrison remains stout against the run, it was obvious that he had lost a few steps as a pass rusher last season. No team with a 3-4 defense is going to spend big money for a declining, injury-prone edge rusher no longer pressuring quarterbacks on a consistent basis.
What everyone in the league sees is that while Harrison may have a good 5-6 game stretch, he is unlikely to be able to maintain that for a full 16 game schedule. That is the definition of a spot player/role player not a starter who wants $4M per year.
Playing Fantasy Football does not qualify you to be the in the front office or on the coaching staff of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are professionals and you are not!
Sure he's an injury risk, but given a full offseason to heal, he can probably put up good numbers again in Pittsburgh. The thing I'm not sure he can do is learn another system. By everyone's admission, it took Harrison years to figure out what his responsibility was in Pittsburgh. He doesn't have many years left. But I think he might have a couple.
If you consider his 6 sacks against the backdrop of having surgery at the beginning of the season, it's not too shabby in context.
This might turn out to be a Starks type deal. Not sure the Steelers will bring him back till they had to. Also don't think JH will come back on the cheap at all. But there is hope right now. He also might get more offers after the draft if some 3-4 teams mis that olb pick they want? Or if teams see a problem in camp at olb?
