    Damon Harrison

    Signed by the Giants.

We discussed him on this board as a possible FA upgrade for the Steelers, but I don't think they were ever in any kind of serious contention for him.

BTW, looks like the Giants are making a big push to get their D back up to a Super Bowl level--along with Harrison, they signed DE Olivier Vernon and CB Janoris Jenkins, and re-upped Jason Pierre-Paul. Big day for them in FA; we'll see if it pays off.

Like the Steelers their window of opportunity is about 3-4 years based on Manning's age, they need to strike while the iron is hot. The Steelers don't have the cap space nor the inclination to go that route, but it certainly is a path that can be followed, in 3-4 years the giants will be blowing that team up and starting from scratch, whether they win a SB or not is to be determined.

Olivier Vernon, Janoris Jenkins, and Damon Harrison would have all helped the Steelers...but at 5 years $85 million with $40M guaranteed, 5 years $62.5 million with $29M guaranteed, and 5 years $46.25 million with $24M guaranteed respectively (plus J.P.P. for 1 year at $10.5 million with $8.5M guaranteed)...those are crazy dollars.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

The $85M (avg of $17M/yr) for Vernon blew me away. It isn't like anybody had time to think about him. The guy just became available the day before, and he gets the Giants to cough up $40M guaranteed.
