By Gerry Dulac / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers are considering LSU assistant Thomas McGaughey as a replacement for departed special teams coach Amos Jones.
McGaughey, 39, has been the special teams coordinator at LSU for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was a special teams assistant coach with the New York Giants from 2007-2010.
The Steelers have also received permission to interview Washington Redskins special teams coordinator Danny Smith, a Pittsburgh native and Central Catholic High School graduate.
Jones left to become special teams coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals, where former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is the new head coach

Glad that Smith isn't the only one getting an interview for this position...Hopefully they'll get the best man for the job...and then, that Tomlin won't fire him before the season begins...

Report: Special Teams Coordinator Danny Smith Accepts Job With Steelers

By ZAC BOYER | zboyer@freelancestar.com

Danny Smith, who has served as the Washington Redskins’ special teams coordinator since 2004, will leave the team for the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to multiple reports.

A Pittsburgh native, Smith once coached defensive backs at Central Catholic High School in the city while Dan Marino was an upperclassman. He survived two coaching transitions after originally being hired by Joe Gibbs to coach special teams before the 2004 season. Well-liked by his players and regarded highly around the league, Smith will replace Amos Jones, who left that role after one season to join new Arizona head coach Bruce Arians’ staff.

The Steelers asked for permission to interview Smith on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Redskins obliged.

Attempts to reach Smith on Wednesday were unsuccessful. A team spokesman declined to comment on reports of Smith’s departure, and the Steelers had not yet made an official announcement as of Wednesday evening.

The Redskins currently have two openings on their coaching staff. Ike Hilliard, the former wide receivers coach, left for the same position with Buffalo two weeks ago.
