Exactly...every team is signing guys like this now (practice squad types to bring to check out during minicamps and OTA to determine if they are worthy to bring to Latrobe this summer). You can't sign vested veterans yet until free agency starts, so all that you can do is bring in guys who you bounced around on different teams practice squads. It's standard operating procedure in the NFL and we do it every year ...not sure why folks are getting their panties in a bunch over this guy in particular.

We already signed OL Joe Long and Justin Cheadle, wideouts Bert Reed and Derek Moye, and corners Isaiah Green and Ross Ventrone as well. Maybe one of them sticks. Maybe none of them do. But it's worth taking a look at guys like this, just in case you happen to come across a diamond in the rough (I like Jake Long's little brother...he was an excellent division II o-lineman that didn't quite have his brother's Michigan pedigree, which is why he was available to add to our practice squad late last season and then to sign to a futures contract for next year).

For what it's worth, here are the guys that we signed to futures contacts last year: OG John Malecki, TE Jamie McCoy, OT Chris Scott, OT Trevis Turner, DT Corbin Bryant, QB Jerrod Johnson, DL Mike Blanc, DT Kade Weston, LB Marshall McFadden and DB Antonio Smith.

Moore has good quickness off the line of scrimmage and is good to secure the ball when running deep. Although he has great speed, he uses it more effectively running quick, intermediate routes than he does running deep to extend the field. He has late-round value due to his speed if teams can look past his size.
    Analysis

    Strengths

Moore is quick off the ball and stemming to get into his route. He is a very sharp route runner who makes extremely quick movements. When he sticks his foot in the ground, the corner is usually laboring right past him due to the effectiveness of his cuts. This helps Moore in his short-route game, and he is more effective working here than he is running deep. For his size, he is good to catch the ball across the middle and doesn't worry about getting hit; he has strong hands and is reliable when the ball is thrown within the radius of his small frame. Weaknesses

Moore is an undersized receiver who actually doesn't even use his speed to extend the field, which he will have to do to make it in the NFL. He can struggle if jammed early at the line and labors to adjust and torque his body when running in-phase. He can separate from defenders but struggles to get his eyes up after breaking off routes to locate the quarterback and secure a catch.
good grief, only needed to read the first five words of the overview, another speedy shrimp with no strength to fight for the ball...... will the Steelers never learn?

They might want him as a return man.

According to his combine numbers, he benched pressed 19 and his vertical was 43.5. I doubt fighting for jump balls is an issue.

Having 4 teams cut you in one year certainly means it isn't his forte.

Well, that's not a fair assessment... could be he has trouble with routes, or is partially blind. Getting cut by 4 teams doesn't mean he can't jump & fight for a ball.

His combine measurables are not that different from a couple of other guys we have on the roster..

However, having 4 teams cut you means that 4 teams thought you were worth having on the roster...it isn't like the guy spent all of last year on the couch...

There are many reasons why a player is released from a practice squad. #1 is because of injury to someone on the 53-man roster. It then becomes a numbers game. Releases are not always totally skill related. Moore was not cut by the Texans, who wanted to sign him to a reserve/future contract, as did the Colts. He requested a release in order to sign with the Steelers. Let's hope he made the right choice.

Super. Let's report on more players who will never ever play in an actual game that counts and won't stick to the roster! Riveting news!
