Annoyingly, it seems Chadman can no longer edit his FA post, so we'll just have to put rumours, updates & the rest of it in the main thread..

Ok, looks like a couple of the figures were off in regards to Cap Cost & Savings. Here is the revised numbers, based on 'the site that shall not be named"

James Harrison- Cap Cost: $10,035,000 Savings if Cut: $5,105,000 Final Year: 2014
Troy Polamalu- Cap Cost: $10,137,500 Savings if Cut: $4,862,500 Final Year: 2014
Ben Roethlisberger- Cap Cost $19,595,000 Savings if Cut: $4,100,000 Final Year: 2015
Heath Miller- Cap Cost: $7,958,500 Savings if Cut: $3,812,000 Final Year: 2014
Ryan Clark- Cap Cost: $4,750,000 Savings if Cut: $3,500,000 Final Year: 2013
Brett Keisel- Cap Cost: $4,500,000 Savings if Cut: $2,825,000 Final Year: 2013
Ike Taylor- Cap Cost: $9,454,166 Savings if Cut: $2,545,832 Final Year: 2014
Ziggy Hood- Cap Cost: $2,990,860 Savings if Cut: $1,992,325 Final Year: 2013
Willie Colon- Cap Cost: $7,650,000 Savings if Cut: $1,200,000 Final Year: 2015
Shaun Suisham- Cap Cost: $1,762,500 Savings if Cut: $1,087,500 Final Year: 2014
Jerricho Cotchery- Cap Cost: $1,500,000 Savings if Cut: $1,000,000 Final Year: 2013

Following these guys it's just a whole lot of small savings.

Of note, in case you are one of the 'get rid of Woodley' crowd, cutting Woodley will cost $1,120,000 against the cap- so that'll never happen. Other players it will cost to remove are Cam Heyward ($845,000), Antonio Brown ($600,000), Maurkice Pouncey ($273,375) & David DeCastro ($3,161,772)

Something concerning to keep in mind- guys that have the final year of their contract in 2014- Ike Taylor, James Harrison, Troy Polamalu & Heath Miller are already top earners. Those contract numbers will go UP again next season. Both James & Troy are $10m+ this season, with Ike just under. At 35, 33 & 34 years old, respectively- those guys & their contract numbers are bad matches. And Miller is just under $8m this year- coming off major knee injury- and will be 32 next season. Is he going to be worth over $8m next season?

Put it this way- that's $40m on 4 guys all over the age of 32. How many players get 'better' at 32?

This reply is because there is no green circle on the tread title. I'm surprised because I have read through everything a number of times. I suppose I have not replied because I must agree with just about everything being said. Keep it rolling everyone.

True, but in 2000 they drafted Plaxico [marvel smith 2rd]and that sort of started things rolling. They missed the PO's that year but in 2001 came up with Hampton and Bell. Then added Hartings as a FA. That year they did a 13-3 and the turnaround lasted thoughout the decade. Same thing is needed this year.

Hmm! 2000 Plaxico #1 ----- 2006 Santonio -----2012 ??WR could be the BPA.

What is laughable about this is almost every year I am one who wants to draft all D and more D. But I suppose one has to be realistic at times. You do need to score some points to win also..

btw: I notice that the links in the last post were from KFFL. In the section with all the UFA's I usually go to that site, but they put everyone altogether and it is hard to figure out. RFA's, signed, resigned, ERFA's etc. That is the real reason I have posted.

How did you get just the available UFA's listed leaving off the RFA's etc. which no one is ever hardly going to get anyhow? I was looking at the TE's. Pitta was there. But an RFA. Last year it was Webb. Another RFA. They are almost never taken. It does seem like Baltimore is doing everything right lately. But, as I said. TS turned it around early last decade and can do it again.

How did Chadman do it? Just a whole lotta typing.

For what it's worth- kffl is a great site. But the UFA's & RFA's should be kept seperate, in Chadman's opinion- for the exact reasons you brought up, teams hardly ever lose RFA's.

It's a bad FA class if you are looking for big time difference makers. But if a team is looking to improve the quality of it's role players- this is a pretty good FA group. It might suit the Steelers, given that they nearly always use the draft to get their impact players.

One guy in FA that is a potential 'difference maker' for the Steelers is one of their own. If they haven't burned the bridge completely- re-signing Mendenhall, given the current roster options, is not a bad move.

Wow! I wouldn't have believed it. But it had to be done. I know one guy that would not begin to think about it. [me] I mean if I can't turn it blue and click it in the post it don't get there.

It will be very helpful next month when the FA stuff gets heated up.

I wouldn't draft a WR in round one, I want a dominate O-lineman who can start day one.

Pouncey is our Pro bowl center for the next ten years or beyond, draft Warmack and you would possibly have 3 Pro bowl players on that line with DeCastro.
Ben needs the best support up front that's possible, I want an impact player not a player you have to groom in round one.

Example. With the changes made on their Oline the Ravens scored 38 against Denver, 28 against NE, and 34 against the mighty 49ers, with that change Flacco went from a good QB to a great one in the playoffs.
They already had a run game and receivers but the main unit is the O-line and the battle on the LOS. 49ER'S front seven couldn't dominate like in previous games.

Ben needs the protection up front, and a line that can run block for whoever we have running the ball, bottom line we need to score points.
If we turn a way a great O-line player at 17 and draft another position, I don't care who u have a WR, Ben has to have protection to get him the ball.
