What Bengals Radio had to Say

"Heath Miller is the most underrated tight end (and possibly player) in the entire NFL"

"Ben Roethlisberger was absolutely incredible on 3rd down, 12 of 13 in the middle of the field on intermediate routes"

"Mike Adams did a terrifice job on the right side for his first start"

"The defensive strategy against AJ Green worked to a T, the Bengals desperately need another wide receiver to step up and take pressure of Green"

Sounds like they were giving credit instead of the "We were better than they were but we lost" that we always seem to hear from Mr. Harbaugh in Baltimore.

I still think that they will be a team to watch for the next few years.

Thanks, it's always interesting to hear what the opposition has to say about the Steelers. Gives a fresh perspective.

The Bengals have some very good young talent, but it is going to get very expensive in the next few years.

Here is a list of their best players and contracts...

Leon Hall is already on a contract extension that will jump to approximately 9 mil per year starting next season through 2015.

Geno Atkins is very underpaid. Next season will be his contract year. I could see him holding out. If not, he will certainly make top money in 2014. Interior pass rushers are highly coveted.

Andre Smith should be a UFA after this season since the Bengals did not exercise a clause in his contract that would have turned it into a 6 year deal from the original 4. He may not be a top player, but he is a good OT with an elite skill set. He may not be easy to replace.

Carlos Dunlap will be in his contract year next season.

Andy Dalton and A.J. Green only signed 4 year contracts before last season. Which means both will be UFAs in 2015. That is 2 and 1/2 seasons away. But, if Dalton pans out that is a financial situation they will need to carefully plan for as franchise QBs and World Class WRs are very expensive. That sort of double whammy is 2015 will limit what they can do with contracts leading up to that season.

Benjarvis Green-Ellis is signed through 2014, but I'm not sure he is a franchise RB. They will probably need to draft or sign one.

Domata Peko is signed through 2014.

In short, most of the Bengals star players (with the exception of Andrew Whitworth LT who is signed through 2015) will be making top money by 2015, some as soon as next year. To complicate matters, all of them, except Hall (who is already making top money), will be coming due for contracts in the next 3 years. It will be very expensive, and they may not be able to keep them all. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but, given the frugality of the Bengals front office, it could also lead to frustrating negotiations and the loss of more talent (like losing Jonathan Joseph this season).
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.
