MIAMI -- New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis suffered a potentially serious left knee injury in the third quarter Sunday against the Miami Dolphins and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Revis, who returned to the lineup Sunday after missing Week 2 with a concussion, was in severe pain when he went down while defending a reverse screen pass. It appeared to be a non-contact injury, as Revis' knee buckled while he tried to get in position to tackle the receiver, running back Daniel Thomas.
Revis walked off under his own power, but he was carted off to the locker room a few minutes later. He wasn't on the back of the cart, where most players sit while being taken to the locker room. He was sitting up in the front seat next to the driver.
If the All-Pro cornerback is lost for a significant period, it would be a devastating blow to the Jets' defense, which relies heavily on his unique man-to-man coverage skills.
Revis has two years remaining on his contract, with the Jets hoping to renegotiate a long-term extension before next season.
