John Clay Fears that his Quad is Torn

Per a report from Wexell on twitter. If torn, Clay would go on IR.

That would give you Redman, Rainey, Batch and Dwyer just by default until Mendenhall returns from the PUP list. I though those 4 would end up being the RBs to make the final cut, but I wonder if the Steelers will bring in somebody else to push those guys, provide a body in camp, and maybe compete for a roster spot.

They will have to bring in someone else. Dwyer and Redman are both dinged up. We need someone to take the punishment in the 4Q of preseason games (and that won't be Rainey). Batch can't do it alone.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

Clay was never going to be a contributor to the team anyway. As stated above, any replacement for him will just be a camp body. It would be better to bring in someone young and see what they've got than to bother giving a veteran some snaps and then cut them when Mendenhall is ready.

Was Chad Spann released for any particular reason? He may already have some playbook knowledge that could speed up the process of having someone ready to take snaps.

I posted this in the Starks thread, but it is also relevant here:

The Pittsburgh Steelers activated OT Max Starks (knee) from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 14. The team also signed free-agent RB Jason Ford (Texans) and put RB John Clay on the Waived/Injured list.

Ford is another big back, a 5'10" 250lb RB/FB hybrid.

Sounds like a guy who could be interesting if he can block and play a little bit of running back.

Look at the positive. At elast Clay may get an injury settlement. He wasn't going to get an NFL paycheck anyway.

That's what happens when a RB has feet of Clay.

There probably should be a thread on Jason Ford but as Pops8 said it it relevant here.

This really complicates things. This player is really not bad at all. I saw several threads on him already and watched some Illinois clips and am curious to see how he looks as a Steeler.

Here is what some people think. Some compared him to Carey Davis. They actually were not intending to be complimentary. But, frankly, Carey Davis was probably better than any of the other so called FB/RB/TE/?? we have had here since he left.

He is listed as a 5 10 251pd RB with FB as a 2nd position with 4.69 speed. On film he looks much faster and appears to be a very polished runner, a very good receiver and a decent blocker.

This is an interesting pickup. But, where would he fit here? Certainly, he is no threat to Chris Rainey?
