We might be better off this season to be the 5 or 6 seed in the playoffs given the way teams are playing after bye weeks.
This might be one of the first years where being the #1 or #2 seed in the playoffs will be a disadvantage.

Does the new CBA mandate time off for players with a bye in the first round of the playoffs or can the teams still use the same practice schedule they did in years past?
In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."

We can take the route we took in 2005 and the Packers took last year. Keep the steel sharp.

Lately, I have been spending some time at sites that are concerned with winning NFL games ATS. The play of teams coming off byes according to some posters there has not been good. I got the impression----but am not sure----that this was not the case in prior years. Anyway out of curiousity I looked some stuff up.
Week 6 bye teams were CLE+5.5, DAL+7, STL+15, MIA+7.5,WAS-1, BAL-7
These teams went 1 - 5 SU and 2-4 ATS
OAKLAND 24 Cleveland 17
NEW ENGLAND 20 Dallas 16
GREEN BAY 24 St Louis 3
JETS 24 Mia 6
Phi 20 WAS 13
BAL 29 Hou 14
Week 7 bye teams were DEN +1.5 TEN-3 KAN +4.5 ARI +3.5 SDG -2 SEA +3
These teams went 2-4 SU 2-3-1 ATS Take out the bizarre DEN win at Mia SU 1-5

Hou 41 TEN 7
Kan 28 OAK 0
Pit 32 ARI 20
NYJ 27 SD 21
CLE 6 Sea 3
Really, the only bye team that played well was Kansas City of all people.
Week 8 bye teams were BUF-6 CIN+3 NE -3 NYG -10 PHI -3.5 SF -10
These teams went 5-1 SU 3-2-1 ATS Not a bad week for the byes. But, at least the bye week caught New England as the Steelers nailed them pretty good.
BUF 23 Was 0
Cin 34 SEA 12
Pit 25 NE 17
NYG 20 Mia 17
PHI 34 Dal 7
SF 20 Cle 10
Week 9 bye teams were ATL-7 CHI+8 GB-6 OAK-8 NYJ+1.5 TB+8
These teams went 4-2 SU 4-2 ATS A very good week for the byes. Interesting that all these bye teams were on the road except OAK and they lost.
Atl 31 IND 7
Chi 30 PHI 24
Gb 45 SD 38
Den 38 OAK 18
Nyj 27 BUF 11

Week 10 bye teams were DET+2.5 MIN+13.5 CAR-3.5 JAX-3
These teams went 2-2 SU and 2-2 ATS
CHI 37 Det 13
Ten 30 CAR 3
GB 45 Min 7
Jax 17 IND 3
Week 12 [No 11] bye teams were IND+3.5 HOU-3 PIT-10 NO-7
These teams went 2-1 SU 1-2 ATS with the final game Nyg @ NO-7 tonight.
Car 27 IND 19
Hou 20 JAX 13
Pit 13 KC 9
Hmm! All 3 road teams won Sunday. Interesting to see how the Giants do at New Orleans tonight.
It seems that after the slow start the bye teams got the first couple weeks things evened out quite a bit. The total results with one game remaining are:
SU 16 W 15 L ATS 14 - 15 - 2
Draw your own conclusions.
This is a good question. Not being able to practice in pads AND having a mandatory amount of days that are completely off days could make the 1 and 2 seeds struggle in the playoffs.Originally Posted by snarky
Break that down by caliber of team and you'll find that most playoff contenders win after their bye, most by scoring a lot of points.
Good teams play well, bad teams don't, regardless of how much rest they have.
That had to be a gut punch yesterday for Gator fans...Beating Ohio State, so easy even a caveman can do it
