Best football day of the year

Any thoughts? Super Bowl (given the Steelers are in)? Playoff home game? Browns/Ravens/Bengal weekend?

I maintain that Opening Day Week 1 is the best football day/weekend of the year! I will be in Vegas as every year (so that might play into why I think so ), but still: I think for sheer excitement & giddiness, it's Week 1.

I get jacked for opening week as well. As a matter of fact, this year I'll be in Austin, Texas enjoying on-field passes for the Longhorns season opener. While the rest of my buddies travel to Houston the next day for the Colts-Texans game, I'm jumping on a plane at O-dark thirty to make it back to my Steelers bar in Sarasota for opening kickoff. It doesn't matter that our starting QB is out, I can't wait until we tee it up!!

Opening weekend is always great especially if they play on Sunday at 1pm because I usually go and see a HS game on Friday night then I'll watch college ball all day Saturday. By Sunday morning I'm pumped and ready for some real football.

Opening Day is great. But what footbally day could EVER be better than Super Bowl Sunday with the Steelers playing??? Not even close in my opinion.

I don't know. This year opening day will be a loss against the Falcons, remember?

I don't know. Like I said, I think a lot is anticipation of a new season, a long time without football, (lke I said, the fact that I'm usually in Vegas for that first weekend), to me it greatly trumps any other day of football.

I envision walking down the the sportsbook before 10am, and the bussle of people, everyone's so bright-eyed about the season, you got people from all over (the country) talking about yesterday's college football results... guys with Notre Dame shirts on, Florida shirts, and it's just festive. Maybe belly up and get a Coors Light! That's what it is though--It's like a football/betting festival.

With the SB, it's more nerve-wracking than excitement. Also (in my case), you're not watching it with fellow Steeler fans. Most people are just there because it's "the Super Bowl". I hate being around that crowd, where they chat about how gay the commercials were, or their kid's dance recital, or some other random bull****--Just STFU and let me watch my game! I don't want to hear about Johnnie and if he likes the PSP you got him for xmas! :P

Re: Best football day of the year

For me personally the best football day of the year - is usually Week 16 - or the Christmas week.

I'm back home, only a few hours drive from the Burgh - it's cold, it's damp, it's football weather.

The Steelers are usually in the drivers seat with the playoffs, however there are certainly seasons where we're fighting for our playoff lives....and even in the late 90's when occassionaly we were out of it - that weekend becomes one of the last few times to see the Steelers before their season is done.

However as the regular season comes to a close there's a thought that Playoff football - which promises to be the best of the year - is just on the horizon.

Super Bowl Sunday with the Steelers is pretty awesome - however it being a Super Bowl I can't help but think that with every passing quarter the season is almost over. That and the past few Super Bowls have been enough to almost give me a cardiac arrest....I was in Phoenix for the last one!

For me - give me a Turkey Sandwhich - made from leftovers of a great Christmas dinner - a Christmas tree in view and the Steelers and terrible towels doing battle in the snow.

***Literally one of Christmas presents each year is to be undisturbed during the Steelers game that week - you can cheer, you can curse, you can reflect some opinion about the game....but it is VERY unwise to expect me to "entertain" visitors, or perform any Christmas chores.....etc....

I hear ya. I made the mistake of watching XL with a mixed crowd like that. Pretty miserable time. So for XLIII I stayed home. It was just me, Mrs. Armpit, Armpit Jr. and my in-laws who have become pretty serious B&G fans. It was a much better experience for me!

For Superbowl XL, I was at a party and these two Harpies behind me were rooting for the Seahawks, not because they were from Seattle, or the Pacific NW, which I would appreciate but because they though Matt Hasselback was cute.

I almost had to kill them.

In honor of those Harpies, I must once again post the gayest picture in the world*

*(that does not include Brady Quinn, of course)
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
