Mariano Rivera's Fastball - awesome analysis

Really cool analysis of a pitched baseball, and what makes his pitch so special. I was lucky enough to go to a game at Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago, it was "Mariano Rivera Day", and as luck would have it he had to come out and make one of his signature saves.

Even got a bobble-head doll out of it!

    Hope you enjoy ...

Here's the embed code, BTW - any one know how to make it so the actual vid plays in my post?

The pitch I find fascinating is Dice-K's gyroball.

I've never tried to throw it, but it looks like you're throwing a football and you create an illusion of a pitch that's going down while it's actually rising.

That actually was pretty interesting, though I guess it hasn't been proven to not be a hoax yet?

OK, here's a joke, based on the part of your post in green:

"How is a Gyro ball like a Milledgeville coed?"

Oh, whoops, I read your post wrong, I see now that was "pitch" with a "P" ...

    :lol

The only thing that may be a hoax is some think it just looks like a screwball.

But just like Mariano, Dice-K's pitch is a bit of an illusion and looks like it should be going somewhere different than it does.
