Good riddance. A WR in the NFL can easily be replaced...especially when you have a franchise QB.

A WR the caliber of SH is not a dime a dozen talent in the NFL. You're an astute football guy and know that it isn't easy to replace a WR of the caliber SH was on the field. If that were the case every team would have one elite WR and that simply isn't the case.

I'd love to see Brandon Marshall make it the B and G somehow.

Agreed, 1200 yard receivers are not available at the drop of a hat. If they were, every team would have one on their roster.

There are other variables to consider about this topic. Like who is throwing the WR's the football or how good is the team? Jerry Rice would not be as prolific as he was if he did not play with 2 HOF QB's.


Holmes is a good WR. He is not in the Fitz or Johnson class of WR's. I would put him in the next tier. The Steelers can over come Holmes' loss. They still have plenty of talented players on offense.

The jets coach certainly thinks he is elite. He's been quoted as saying that when he was coaching with the Ratbirds, Holmes was the BEST WR they faced all season.

I agree with aggie - he handcuffed the Steelers and his insanely stupid tweeting could not be ignored on top of everything else. But the Steelers are losing a talent. To act as if this isn't so is naive.

They lose talent and always find a way to eventually replace most guys. It is better that this happened now as opposed to in the middle of the season.

Get rid of him? Yes. But please not to a potential SB contender in your own conference. Let the "IF" of Santonio behavior management loom in the kingdom of Far Far Away. I think a bit of poker face and a show of "we think we can work with this guy to overcome these problems" would have netted more.

he is a talent but not a talent too hard to replace. solid wr's in the nfl are very common. holmes isnt elite and never will be. the jets also think braylon edwards is an elite wr so that says how much they know about evaluating wr talent. it sucks we only got a 5th considering his talent but if you look at his rap sheet he is a disaster. he really screwed the steelers big time

We got a 5th round pick because he's a dumb@ss and it has nothing to do with his talent. If you believe that finding a 1200 yard per season receiver with a rather high YPC and YAC is easy then why doesn't every team have one?

Holmes can make plays against press man, zone, and any other defense that has been devised. He reads defenses well and seems to be on the same page more often than not with Ben. Believing that it will be easy to replace him is a bit naive. I'd rather have him for 12 games next year and then let him hit free agency. He would have been playing for his big payday.

He's already been replaced buy what I believe will be a better receiver....Mike Wallace. And I bet Wallace finds the end zone more than 5 times a year too.

That remains to be seen. Wallace won't have anyone protecting him this year by demanding extra coverage. I hope you're right, but my statement about 1200 yard per year receivers not being easy to replace still stands. They're not low hanging fruit in the draft and they aren't low hanging fruit currently on rosters.
