Steelers | P Daniel Sepulveda offered low tender

interesting, looks like the Steelers will let another team do their negotiating for them.
i don't think we would match an outrageous offer though, which means we would lose him and get nothing back in return.

i dont like this move. He hasnt exactly been booming them but he does have plenty drop inside the 20. Just look at our punting situation when he was injured. He is going to continue to improve. Hopefully it is standard for punters and we have no chance of losing him.

The fourth round comp/low tender is the right move. No one will likely sign him and give up a fourth rounder. If he goes, we get a pick in a good draft.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

here is another article by John Harris from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that also states we will get no compensation if we decide not to match an offer to Sepulveda.

Steelers tender offers to Colon, Sepulveda

    By John Harris, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Tuesday, March 2, 2010

John Harris is a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review sports columnist and can be reached at 412-481-5432 or via e-mail.

The Steelers have offered the second-highest tender to restricted free agent Willie Colon with the intent of retaining their starting right tackle for the 2010 season, agent Joe Linta said.

If another team offers Colon a contract during the free agency period beginning Friday and the Steelers fail to match it, the Steelers will receive a first-round draft pick as compensation.

Colon, a fourth-round selection in 2006, is the only offensive lineman to start every game under coach Mike Tomlin.

Colon, who has made 54 consecutive starts (including playoffs), will earn $2.521 million.

The Steelers also offered a low tender of $1.176 million to restricted free agent punter Daniel Sepulveda, agent Drew Pittman confirmed.

If another team offers Sepulveda a contract, the Steelers have the right of first refusal but won't receive a draft pick if Sepulveda leaves.

Thursday is the deadline for the Steelers to offer one-year tenders to restricted free agents William Gay, Matt Spaeth, Carey Davis and Darnell Stapleton.

What Actually Happened: Lamar Jackson became the youngest two-time NFL MVP winner ever.

Well, Harris has the amount at 1.176 which is the low tender for 4 seasons accrued. Sep has only played three seasons and the low tender amount for that is 1.101 (from the article you quoted above). So, Harris isn't exactly on top of things here. I don't know why the Steelers would go with a lower tender with no comp, when the lower tender with draft round comp costs the same amount. I'd hope that the Steelers have enough savvy that they'd get something in return (especially if it doesn't cost them anything more). I'm not sure how harris got the wrong amount from sep's agent.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

If the amount of the low tender without compensation is the same as the low tender with compensation, I can't understand why the Steelers wouldn't select the option that would give them compensation.

I imagine that we'll get an answer to this question soon.
