    Horton doesn't get job

Steelers secondary coach Ray Horton, considered a prime candidate to leave to become defensive coordinator at the University of Houston, did not get that job.

The school hired Philadelphia Eagles coach Brian Stewart as its defensive coordinator.

Horton's status with the Steelers, where he has coached the past six seasons, remains unclear. Horton, hired in 2004 as the team's assistant defensive backs coach by Bill Cowher, was kept on the new staff by coach Mike Tomlin, who promoted him to defensive backs coach in 2007.

It will be interesting to see if he is retained or not.

Ed Bouchette is reporting that his status with the Steelers organization remains "unclear". John Harris of the Tribune Review is reporting that he will "stick with the Steelers".

I think I'll trust the PG's Bouchette here, even though he can be a huge bag o' douche most of the time.

His information tends to be more reliable than the Trib's Harris, whose reporting style seems to involve throwing crap against a wall and seeing what sticks.

might depend if Tomlin can find a better secondary coach or not, the fact that Horton's job status is still "unclear" at this point doesn't bode too well for Horton's long-term job security as a Steeler.

I wasn't too impressed with Horton's body of work last season, Ike Taylor regressed again and none of the younger players ever developed.
