Last meaningful game over--Final 53 Prediction

    Quarterback (3)

Ben Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch, Dennis Dixon.
Rationale: Easy prediction but I do expect they hope to get Reilly on PS in anticipation of batch retirement.

    Running back (5)

Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Carey Davis, Stefan Logan.
Rationale: I think coaches and FO wanted Summers but unless he is healthy soon he is detined for the PS along with Redman. Redman runs hard but his fitness looks lacking. Logan pushes both to the PS because he will be a more regular contributor every game when Summers and Redman would unlikely even dress for games.

    Wide receiver (5)

Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Limas Sweed, Mike Wallace, Shaun McDonald.
Rationale: McDonald has done nothing wrong and is a solid security player.

    Tight end (3)

Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth, David Johnson.
Rationale: Johnson gets a pass because of McHugh injury but I would prefer McHugh's experience.

    Offensive line (10)

Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu, Justin Hartwig, Trai Essex, Willie Colon, Ramon Foster, Darnell Stapleton, Kraig Urbik, Tony Hills, Jason Capizzi.
Rationale: Unless Stapleton's injury warrants IR both Shipley and Legursky will be interior OL on PS.

    Defensive line (7)

Brett Keisel, Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, Chris Hoke, Nick Eason, Sonny Harris, Ziggy Hood.
Rationale: Toughest decision is to cut Kirschke but he has a history of a bad back and I don't think Harris will clear waivers. Need to get younger here and this is the year.

    Linebacker (

James Harrison, Lawrence Timmons, James Farrior, LaMarr Woodley, Donovan Woods, Keyaron Fox, Andre Frazier, Patrick Baily.
Rationale: Davis has missed out on his chance. Baily makes it at the expense of Anthony Madision because Baily is solid on special teams.

    Cornerback (6)

Ike Taylor, William Gay, Deshea Townsend, Keenan Lewis, Joe Burnett, Keiwan Ratliff
Rationale: Anthony Madision is too one dimensional and can't play DB at all. Burnett takes his gunner role.

    Safety (3)

Ryan Clark, Troy Polamalu, Ryan Mundy
Rationale: Townsend becomes insurance at safety along with Ratliff. Mundy can play both free and strong safety. End of the line for Carter. This is our thinest area and we need to address in next year's draft early.

    Specialist (3)

Jeff Reed, Dan Sepulveda, Greg Warren.

Nice breakdown and rationale. Tyrone Carter has been solid and more of an asset then a liability but the FO may look at what he counts against the cap more then veteran experience.

As far as the wide receivers...Baker, Nance, Williams can any of those guys still qualify for PS? Maybe they lay low enough under the radar where they would be available if injury occurs during the season. A couple of these guys know the system to an extent which would be an advantage over a guy off the street I would think.

I see Tomlin keeping Logan as a Specialist rather than a RB/WR. Redman will be
our goalline/short yardage, cuz no one else can do it as well right now. Tony Hills
is garbage, and I think we go with nine OL instead of ten. And Ty Carter still
might get the nod over Mundy, just because of his experience. Plus, I still have
    not seen Mundy do anything....

Not sure Redman has shown enough against 1st team players. I don't think he endeared himself to Tomlin last night asking to come out. He is worth keeping around but not sure on the Final 53. I really doubt he would be active on game day just for short yardage especially when a slot is likely to be taken by Logan.

Re: Last meaningful game over--Final 53 Prediction

I would be disappointed to see Bruce Davis get the ax. He has NFL bloodlines, and he was productive at the major D1 level. Problems is, he was a project coming out (collegiate D-lineman too small to play there), and we knew that. I hope they don't give up on him yet.

The other obvious area of interest to me is Redman/Logan. I want to keep both of these guys. I think Redman serves a definite role (as a short-yardage guy), and Logan obviously does as a kick return man.

I hate the fact of contracts and that kind of thing... cuz, as crazy as it sounds, Mendenhall is the most useless back right now. He serves no purpose (e.g. depth--that's Mewelde, short-yardage--that's Redman IMO, 3rd down--that's Mewelde).
    Guys and gals,
If you play fantasy football, go to the FF forum here and read my thread. I'd appreciate some feedback on it.

    do what?

    mendenhall is anything but useless.

as far as davis goes, i say cut bait. the guy looks like a turd. hated the pick when it was made. anthony collins made alot more sense.

OK, I'm not saying he's useless... maybe a bit harsh with that word usage. But consider:
-Who do you want to be the bellcow back right now? FWP
-Who do you want in there, on 3rd down? Mewelde
-Who do you want in there on the goalline? I'm not definitively saying Redman, cuz obviously haven't seen him vs. the big boys... I'm saying Mewelde right now.
-Who's the guy, if FWP goes down against the Ravens, you want becoming the RB? Mewelde

That's what I'm saying. Mendenhall right now, is a luxury... a projection... potential... (kinda like Bruce Davis; and please remember Davis is switching positions, a la Gildon, Haggans... both those guys needed a few years to develop)

i see what you're saying, but have to respectfully disagree.

i think mendenhall will be a big part of this teams success this season.

davis has been a bum since day 1. cut your losses.

Re: Last meaningful game over--Final 53 Prediction

I got the impression that Carey Davis came back in the game yesterday cause he's fighting for a roster spot.

There's some tough final spots to call in several areas - RB, WR, DLine, and CB.

Logan getting a spot makes it even tougher and it's going to come down to positional flexibility at the end of the day.

I'm starting to feel like our second string is better than many team's first strings.

    You know I was starting to think the same thing last night. Granted they were playing against second and third string players but there are at least a couple guys that would be starting on Sundays. {Several people pointed that out weeks ago but it finally hit me last night watching Fox, etc}
