Three unanswered goals by Brazil. 3-2 Brazil in the 84th minute.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Made me sick...ruined my day.

Disgusted. It seems Bradley pulled the team back way too early and giving one back a minute into the 2nd half was not acceptable.

I concur with Landon Donovan, I don't care if US gets respect, I want them to win. This is the closest to a major trophy they have ever been or are likely to ever be in quite a long time.

Lets just hope they carry this into the World Cup next year.

It was absolutely disgusting to watch that second half.

Was that the prevent defense?

The second goal on that counter attack was probably the best goal I've seen the US score in my life. Not only how pretty it was, but I don't remember an effective counter attack like that. Not to mention the magnitude of it going up 2-0 and sniffing a trophy.

Disappointing outcome. But the good news is that the US is running out of moral victories. At this point the only moral victory left is a loss in the semi-final or final of the WC. Also good to see some younger players move into the squad. I'm so sick of Beasley. I mean, I don't want to sound cold but it's time to thank him for his service and move on.

Also, I am going to hope that this helps a few guys get some more playing time in Europe. There's no way Altidore should be riding the pines in la segunda. And hopefully Davies will be on the move to a more competitive league.

And finally this: If the US can defeat Mexico at Azteca in the WC qualifier we should end up in Pot B next year for the seeding which would make it easier to advance to the knock-out stage.

Gold Cup coverage on the Univision networks (Or should I say Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolld Cup):

http://www.univision.com/content/conten ... id=1199728

Apparently, Galavision is available on DirctTV, but I haven't found it yet.

Also, you can get the US Open Cup games online (starting tonight) at the USL site:

You have to register, but registration is free.

Here is the US Open Cup home page:

New FIFA rankings out today. US is ranked 12th

So FIFA rankings are considered not all that reliable. So then I checked the World Football ELO rankings and I see that we are ranked 11th there.

TBH, if we can just hold steady around #10 for a few years I'll be happy. We seem to fluctuate between about #30 and #5 (yeah right). So I'd just be content if we could stay steady where we are and actually compete as a top 12 or even a top 10 team. That means getting out of the group at the next two WCs. Winning the 2011 Gold Cup (the current one doesn't really matter so much) and finishing top of the table in WC qualifying.

Re: Soccer thread

Snarky, yeah the rankings are a joke because we play all the little concacaf teams during qualifying and rack up wins. While Europe has its share of luxembourgs and whatnot, i think the level of competition is way higher there. But when we were in like the top 6 that one year before the world cup, i was cracking up.

As for the Gold Cup...can't wait for it to start. We've got virtually an entire new squad, mostly MLS'ers, but some decent talent. Hopefully they can snag 1 or 2 guys out of this roster for the WC next year. Watch Chad Marshall from Columbus Crew, that guy is always around the net either assisting or scoring for the Crew.

Crew Stadium has a double header on July 7th. I bought tickets a few months back and can't wait. Its going to be Group B (?)...I get to see Canada v. El Salvador, then Costa Rica v. Jamaica. Outrageous deal, $30 for both games. I'm pumped.

OK, did a bit of searching regarding these Gold Cup games and here is the DirectTV configuration where I am (Florida)

Galavision: Channel 404
Telefutura: Channel 69

Not sure if these will work for everyone, but there you go.
