Smythe's After Game Thoughts on Ravens

    SPECIAL TEAMS:
~ Contain Leonhard on punt returns
~ Stover is money inside the 45 (except in Heinz Field)

    OFFENSE:
~ Flacco is hard to rattle but can't win the game on his own.
~ Flacco looks for Mason on almost every play. Roll the coverage to Mason and make Flacco look for other options. If that happens Flacco will be rattled.
~ Stuff the middle on short yardage, they love to give it to the FB. McClain is NOTHING w/out a full head of steam.

    DEFENSE:
~ I finally noticed the Ravens weak spot. It's not up the middle ... although Tennessee was able to make some runs up the middle. BUT on the edges. The Ravens are really a 5-2 defense. Their OLB's aren't good in coverage at all ... make Ray Ray run sideline to sideline to pursue balls in the flat.
~ Oh Yeah . . . Stay away from Ed Reed.

    Good stuff, Sid!

If the Steelers can win TOP, the 'Tards D has a nasty habit of wearing down in the waning moments of a game. Happened against the Tits the first time. Happened against us the second time. Happened against the Phins, even though the game wasn't in doubt in that case.

Reed hasn't had any effective games against us this year. But that doesn't mean he won't and the rest of their secondary is suspect often. Hopefully, the Steelers will be able to get outside with the run. They will need to establish this trait against SD tomorrow. The more they work the outside and spread out their D, the more the inside game will be effective when they go to it.

ST will be crucial tomorrow and next Sunday assuming our success. Coverage will need to be exceptional in every case.

The Steelers must also crack every skull that dares to go over the middle. No cheap yards and every hit means business.

Clayton had the big play, but it was in double coverage and it was a poor throw. He just made the play. BUT Flacco is looking for Mason on every play almost . . .

PLUS . . . Todd Heap is SOFT . . . we need to smack him in the mouth early and often.

I fully support this and to not exclusively to Heap. We need to do so with every Ratbird in existance and show them not to ever fukc with the BLACK and GOLD!

Let Timmons hit Mason off the LOS.

Mason fears Timmons after the lick he put on him last game.
