    2008 New Orleans Saints review

2008 Review - A year full of injuries & disappointment

*Finished last place in the NFC South

It seems to be the same old story for the Saints despite their efforts this past off-season. Very good on offense, poor on defense, and no playoff appearance to show for it. The Saints went into the 2008 off season with one thing in mind and that was to shore up the defense. They spent their first 3 draft picks on defensive players(DT Sedrick Ellis 7th overall, CB Tracy Porter 40th overall, and DT DeMarrio Pressley 144th overall), they signed DE Bobby McCray from Jacksonville, traded for LB Jonathan Vilma, signed CB Aaron Glenn and CB Randall Gay. Of all these players only 2 players appeared in all 16 games and only one started all 16(Vilma). The defense finished 23rd overall which was respectable considering the amount of injuries the Saints suffered this season. A total of 9 defensive players were placed on IR at some point during the season including 4 starters.
