    Not putting Marvel on IR...

Is this a good move, or could we use an extra body for the playoffs?
Lets face it his career is over, why waste a roster spot?
    or
Am I totally off base here?

If he wont even play or dress, we should IR him and get another body...

I think they are still holding out hope he will be avail at least as a backup????

If they don't expect him to be ready then there is no reason to keep his seat warm. The question is how ready he will be when he returns to health. Also, does he reclaim his starting spot upon return? That might be the bigger question.

put him on IR, then when he's "healthy" again this spring and everyone starts talking about how awesome he is, trade him to the redskins for a 3rd rounder.

that would be a savvy move right there boys...

If there is any possible way that Marvel could play in January, he would be a better option to carry as injury insurance instead of having to plug in Essex as a starter if something were to happen to Starks or Colon, then realizing that you are just one play away from having Parquet or Hills entering the game.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

as they well should. if there's a chance he could play in January, you'd rather have him available. they're not going to find a FA as good as he can be. and the team is getting by now without him.

is it better to have "a body" today, or a starter in January?

    Well said.

It's not like everybody on the OL dresses for every game anyway. There is no real need to add somebody else to the roster right now, so I'd rather hold out to see if he can contribute later. I just consider him kind of like Hills. Except that I think that Smith actually has a possibility of contributing to the team.
