What a way to make a father proud!

Yes, these things DO happen, and he's just a kid... But what a way to make a father proud. Especially when he is in the public eye.....

Irish's Yeatman, Golic among 41 arrested on alcohol charges

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman and center Mike Golic Jr., son of an ESPN radio and television host, were among nearly 40 people arrested on misdemeanor alcohol charges early Sunday at a South Bend home, police said.

Yeatman, 20, faced preliminary charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor, false informing and resisting arrest, while Golic, 18, faced a preliminary charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor, Police Sgt. William Redman said.

Prosecutors will review police reports before deciding whether to file formal charges against Yeatman and Golic. Police reports could be filed Monday, but the prosecutor's office did not know how quickly decisions on charges would be made.

The charge could be more serious for Yeatman, who was arrested in January on a charge of driving drunk on a campus sidewalk. Prosecutors agreed in February to dismiss a criminal recklessness charge and allowed Yeatman to plead guilty to drunken driving and reckless driving. The agreement called for the state to move that the drunken driving charge be dismissed if Yeatman stayed out of trouble for a year.

Police made the arrests after Notre Dame returned to South Bend following a 23-7 loss Saturday at Michigan State. St. Joseph County Police spokesman Sgt. Bill Redman said police were targeting businesses that reportedly had sold to minors when they received a report about the party.

Those arrested were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail. Neither Yeatman nor Golic, whose father, Mike Golic, co-hosts "Mike & Mike in the Morning" remained in the jail Sunday evening.

A message seeking comment was left by The Associated Press for Yeatman on his cell phone.

Women's basketball player Brittany Mallory, 19, also faced a preliminary charge of minor consumption. A woman who answered a phone listed under Mallory's name hung up when The Associated Press called Monday.

Mallory averaged 6.3 points and made the All-Big East freshmen women's basketball team last season.

Women's basketball coach Muffet McGraw said the matter is being handled "internally in accordance with our team rules and procedures."

On Monday, ESPN's Mike Golic said on his radio program: "It just happened on Saturday night, so, really, I can't say a whole lot more than that, other than everything's going to be fine. We learn lessons in life all the time. He's a good kid ... and you learn from things and we move on."

Golic added: "As this thing goes forward and there's a resolution to it, I'll certainly be up front about it."

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis was not asked about the arrests during his weekly news conference Sunday afternoon, but he released a statement Sunday night saying he was "made aware of the situation late this afternoon and am currently looking into the matter."

University spokesman Dennis Brown said he knew that some Notre Dame students had been arrested but said he would not have further comment.

Yeatman had played in all three games this season for the Irish, making two catches for six yards. Golic, a freshman, has not yet played.

Initial reports said 41 people were arrested. Police said Monday that 37 were arrested, including some members of the Notre Dame lacrosse team. Police said Sunday that members of the soccer team also were arrested, but none of the names on the list of those arrested match names on either the men's or women's soccer rosters.

Can't say I blame him...freshman year is a great year to go to parties! He is just being a college freshman, let him enjoy his experience. Now his father has to deal with this on air...that sucks....People are going to act like he is a bad kid just because he was drinking at a party...who didn't do that as a college freshman...it's part of growing up and going to college.....They just need to let it go and get a life...way more important stuff to worry about.
