Ernster and Kick Offs??

I got this little tidbit :
K Jeff Reed could lose his kickoff duties if Paul Ernster sticks. Ernster has kicked off in the NFL and Reed is not strong in that area.
from this article:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=t ... eam_report

Question is ... does anyone remember Ernster kicking off? Maybe that is why we brought him in also -- to see if he can get the ball deeper thans skippy. The article also says that Mike Barr is still unsigned and we could bring him in if Ernster doesn't work out.
Cleveland spelled backwards is DNA Level C

i thought barr was decent a couple years back in preseason. does anyone know if he is chris's son or matts? im asuming there is some relation. i thought reed's kick offs were actually much better last year than in the past.

Barr was cut by the Cardinals because he was terrible in game situations. It will be interesting to see if Ernster can nail down the job or whether someone else would be brought in. Having someone who could get the ball into the end zone on KOs would be a major value add to this team.

Reed actually started the year off great with his kickoffs. I think the first 3 or 4 games he put about 50% into the endzone. I'm not sure what happened but it seemed to go downhill from there. It would certainly be beneficial to my health if we could find someone who puts their kickoffs in the endzone because my heart seems to stop every time they start to run it back against us. There are times I'd almost rather they kick it out of bounds.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

it would help the coverage a lot if ernster can do better than reed in that aspect. i agree i hate seeing kick offs. its always an adventure and i swear i have never seen a worse coverage than in that browns game at home. that was absolutely pathetic

I always thought the short kickoffs were by design. Shorter kicks give the special teams unit less time to set up their return, theoretically giving the kicking a better chance at makign the play. Unfortunately, if that's the plan, it didn't work out any better for us on kick coverage. Maybe we should go back to putting starters on special teams.

In the 2006 season, Ernster was the full time punter and kickoff specialist for the Denver Broncos. He punted 80 times with a 41.7 yard average (36.6 net) and 23 punts downed inside the 20 and 7 7 touchbacks. He kicked off 75 times, and 19 of them were touchbacks. He only played in 2 games last season (1 for Denver and 1 for Cleveland).

Also, punter Mike Barr is not related to kickers Matt Bahr or Chris Bahr. Their last names are spelled differently.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

wow thats a strange coincedence, i just assumed they were related. those arent bad numbers but it was two seasons ago. with this offense they might never punt though

Now that I will cheer with you.
Maybe not realistic, but a good thing to think about.

Kickoff stats in Denver (like Coors Field HR stats) are probably skewed by the thin air up there.
