I just don't see where a team can compete!

Looking at the depth charts from the Steelers and the divsional opponents it is clear that the other teams in the divsion just don't have the depth to compete! Sorry it is long but you will see what I am talking about! Take a look! From what I can see the Bengals look like the team with the most depth besides the Steelers, on paper they actually look like a team that can compete! We'll see if that is the case. The Stains are thin everywhere, last year was like '05 for the Bungles but they didn't even make the playoffs, go figure! The Ravens have some decent talent but that passing game is going to be no where near good enough to challenge for a playoff spot this year!

They compete at most arrests in a season.

..... Yes they do....

Akron, I'm not sure why that is, but it deletes spaces on mine as well when posting stats. Try using "..." in between them, and it works pretty good....

Re: I just don't see where a team can compete!

The Steelers are clearly the deepest and most experienced team in the AFC North.

No one can match the Steelers running game. And some of these teams have the same guy backing up all their positions at certain areas (i.e. check the Clowns pass rush). More than one injury at an area could spell disaster.

The big concern for the Steelers going into camp is how the line will shake out. You have two guys playing for a contract. Another coming in with a big contract. The rest are largely undistinguished (with the exception of Simmons) and are looking to make their mark with the Black and Gold. And they are only missing Faneca, which could be a good thing for a young group like this OL.

I think if guys like Kemo and Colon can raise the level of their game and have Hills, Capizzi, and, even, Mahan push and compete, then I think the Steelers will be in good shape. That's particularly true if Smith, Simmons and Hartwig all play to expectations and Max Sucks gets his head out of his rectal cavity.

A couple of things to update:

QB: Carson Palmer Ryan Fitzpatrick Jeff Rowe (Jordan Palmer will most likely be waived)

WR: Chad Johnson Antonio Chatman Jerome Simpson
WR: T.J. Houshmandzadeh Andre Caldwell (Doug Gabriel has already been waived) Glenn Holt/Marcus Maxwell

Caldwell and Chatman will be ahead of Simpson when the season starts unless he really steps it up in Training Camp.

LT: Levi Jones Anthony Collins
LG: Andrew Whitworth Bobbie Williams
C: Dan Santucci Eric Ghiaciuc
RG: Stacey Andrews Bobbie Williams
RT: Willie Anderson Stacy Andrews Scott Kooistra

No way Bobbie Williams is not the starting RG. He probably has the most job security on the O-Line. Also Eric Ghiaciuc will be the starting center. Stantucci is actually struggling thus far this preseason and was replaced as the #2 center by Bobbie Williams because he was doing so bad.

LT: Domata Peko Pat Sims
RT: Michael Myers John Thornton Jason Shirley

I wish Mike Myers got more playing time last season but this season he might not even make the team. Although I'm a fan of his he won't be starting. It will probably look more like:

LT: Domata Peko Jason Shirley Mike Myers
RT: Pat Sims John Thornton

With Jonathan Fanene playing DT and DE. He's bulked up to 300 lbs., so he should do better at the DT position this season...

i still have my doubts about next season. on paper this team looks awsome but who knows. it seems every offseason i get my hopes sky high and im some what dissapointed at the end of the year. everything all comes down to the o-line though. if they can be only average than i think the steelers will be an elite team, however being an average line might be a task in itself

Re: I just don't see where a team can compete!

In light of this thread, I thought the following article was interesting. It talks about the teams with the most depth, that could best sustain an injury to one of the starters.

http://www.nfl.com/trainingcamp/story?i ... nfirm=true

I won't post the entire article, but the final gist was:

Here are the top five teams when it comes to depth:
Rk - Team - No. 2 QB - No. 2 RB - No. 3 OT - No. 3 WR - No. 2 OG/C - No. 2 TE No. 3 DT - Nickle CB - No. 3 safety
1 Vikings - Gus Frerotte - Chester Taylor - Marcus Johnson - Bobby Wade - Maurice Hicks - Jim Kleinsasser - Ellis Wyms - Marcus McCauley - Tyrell Johnson
2 Bucs - Brian Griese - Earnest Graham - Donald Penn - Maurice Stovall - Dan Buenning - Ben Troupe - Ryan Sims - Aqib Talib - Eugene Wilson
3 Steelers - Charlie Batch - Rashard Mendenhall - Willie Colon - Limas Sweed - Sean Mahan - Matt Spaeth - Chris Hoke - Bryant McFadden - Anthony Smith
4 Redskins - Todd Collins - Ladell Betts - Todd Wade - Devin Thomas - Jason Fabini - Fred Davis - Kedric Gholston - Fred Smoot - Stuart Schweigart
5 Eagles - A.J. Feeley - Correll Buckhalter - Winston Justice - Hank Baskett - Max Jean-Gilles - Kris Wilson - Trevor Laws - Lito Sheppard - J.R. Reed

Edit: Sorry, Burgh86, didn't see your thread on this same topic.

So, if all the starters in the league get hurt, we've got a chance....

Meanwhile, since only starers play... I hate to admit it, but, Clevelands team looks like serious competition.

Ben > Anderson
Parker > Lewis
Our o-line < their o-line

Braylon Edwards + Donte Stallworth is very comparable to Ward and Holmes. In fact, your average (non-biased) joe would likely give them the edge in that matchup. Throw in winslow and it's them in a landslide.

Looking at defense, they certainly have a lot of veteran names that, if they play up to their potential, could give us fits.

Reading their roster, actually made me more worried...
