Moore looking like a good pick up.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Mewelde Moore could prove a free-agent steal according to PFW. Moore's play in offseason workouts drew comparisons to Patriots pass-catching RB Kevin Faulk. Moore, who signed a three-year contract reportedly worth up to $4.95 million in March, has a chance to be Pittsburgh's most formidable receiving threat out of the backfield in recent memory. The Steelers haven't had a back catch 40 passes since RB Amos Zereoue caught that many in 2003, and you have to go back to 1994 to find a Pittsburgh back with 50 catches or more (FB John L. Williams, who caught a team-high 51 passes). Moore is unlikely to be in the mix for the team lead in receptions, but he could be more of an offensive threat than may have been expected.

funny thing about it, that's the one thing that has dumbfounded me... he's not that fast. How can a guy who's "not that fast" be a good return guy.

    I never woulda guessed that.

He's got a nice burst...good change of direction...above average top end speed. Return men are just as much about vision as they are speed.

Seems someone here was just posting here not too far back about how the Steelers just don't throw to the RBs.

    Wonder who that was?

Re: Moore looking like a good pick up.

The Steelers offense just isn't designed rack up large passing numbers to the backs.
It's a slow 7 step drop , type of offense. the West coast system like the packers,
seattle , Pats make the Running back a huge deal in the passing game. Many people wrongly say that Ben needs to learn to check down like Brady. But they are over stating
that because the teams I have mentioned above make those checkdowns a huge part of their offense. It's part of their system. For you people who watch a lot of football, how many times has Brett Farve threw that little pass for 5 yards right over the middle to the RB? He does is all the time. That's the west coast design. Walsh believed that it was easier to throw safe passes to backs out of the backfield as it is to run the ball. The Steelers have always been the reverse. The would rather run the ball. The only time the Steelers ever used their backs in passing much is with screen passes. Other wise they typically stay in and block.
