MSM - Mendenhall was drafted because he was the BPA when the Steelers picked. :
So they would drafted the Matt Ryan if he were available? or what about the Best Strong Safety? You see what I'm getting at?

The drafted Mendy to replace Parker. Might not happen in Sept. But when Parker goes down, he will never start again. And moore is the 3rd down back cause he catches Passes. Another thing fast willie doesn't do. [/quote:dcscdco1]

Ben is a franchise QB so no, of course they wouldn't.

Now I'll give you a chance to rub one out before I start the next part.

Done? That didn't take long.

FWP may not be the best back in the league but he's much closer to the best than he is to the worst. At least to people who look at more than just stats. There's no doubt that Parker isn't a consistent inside runner...would a better line make him one? Maybe. But with things as they are and when a guy like Mendenhall drops they would have been foolish to pass on him.

As for Parker having hands of stone...that's flat-out untrue. Just as you say Ben doesn't check down because the offense doesn't have any 3 step drops and the TE and RB have to stay in to block I say that Parker doesn't have many pass catching opportunities because they don't throw his way much and/or he is kept in to block.

His receiving numbers over his career:
2004 - 8 games, 3 catches, 16 yards, 5.3 avg
2005 - 15 games, 18 catches, 218 yards, 12.1 avg
2006 - 16 games, 31 catches, 222 yards, 7.2 avg
2007 - 15 games, 23 catches, 164 yards, 7.1 avg

I don't recall seeing him drop many passes. The Steelers haven't thrown much to the running backs since Bettis was added to the roster. Take a look at his numbers for yourself: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/s ... ayerId=389

Here's Fred Macafee: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/s ... ayerId=152

Najeh Davenport: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/s ... yerId=3663

Bam Morris: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... .htm?redir

You have to go back to John L. Williams in '94 to find a season when the Steelers really threw to the RB: http://www.nfl.com/players/johnl.willia ... =WIL381258

That's all I can think for RBs of at the moment. I couldn't even find stats on Jon Whitman.

Shall I continue or can we put to rest the Parker can't catch myth?

Will Mendenhall change that? Who knows...every time the Steelers draft a TE they say they will throw to them more and it never seems to work out that way...so I have my doubts.[/quote:dcscdco1]

At least your using Stats to back up your Position this time instead of just eyeballing it. [/quote:dcscdco1]

Sometimes my memory works out for me. I knew the Steelers didn't throw much to the backs...except when they had John L. I had to look them up to see the exact numbers though.

Before John L. I'm not really sure. It was VERY hard for me to see Steelers games unless they were on national TV. That was well before the internet too so I had to rely on the old George Michael's Sports Machine.

And of course during the 70s I was pretty young.

I will tell you this. Franco was like Edge James. He could really snag a ball out of the air.
I have all 5 of those Steeler DVD's. Check out the 1974 DVD. The one narriated by Joe green and Andy Russel. They show highlights from abotu every game that season. One highlight shows Franco going down the sideline and Bradshw hitting him with a pass. Franco just reaches up and snags it out of the air like it was nothing. I was very impressed.

I do recall seeing highlights of Franco and Rocky catching passes...I just never really looked at their season numbers.

Aight...here goes a serious attempt.

Right

1) Ben...I also said that year was a fluke. I knew he would be back and better.
2) That we didn't really correct our lack of pass rush.
3) Predicted we would draft Woodley in the second and he would be a beast.
4) Been saying for years that Harrison is a bad bad mo fo...he proved that last season.
5) After predicting we would move on to draft Holmes I predicted he would excell and continue to grow. I predicted a 1000 yard season...well I was close.

Wrong

1) I took much too long to come around about Parker.
2) I thought Ike and McFadden would have big years.
(which I still believe this year...guess I never learn)
3) I didn't think much of Ryan Clark.
4) Underestimated the effect of Aaron Smith on this team.
While I never come out and said it...I felt our D would still run
without him...wow was I wrong.

I have to be honest, you got some things on your list I failed to list. I was completely
taken aback by the importance of Ryan clark. geez.

Mcfadden is interesting. I'm not sure you were all wrong. Did you know that Mcfadden was in the top 5 in the NFL in giving up the fewest yards per pass of any Def back?

AARon smith, I just found out he is a hall of famer that will never get elected.

No I didn't know that. McFadden has the tools. I look foward to see him starting.
I agree about Aaron...he is single handedly the most important player on our D. Now we know why Bellicheat said he would take Aaron Smith if given the choice of anyone on our D.
