    Raiders Sign McFadden

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=a ... &type=lgns

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP)óThe Oakland Raiders signed running back Darren McFadden late Thursday night, making sure their first-round draft pick will be in training camp after JaMarcus Russellís protracted holdout last year.

The Raiders didnít announce the dealís terms, but scheduled a news conference for Friday with McFadden, the Arkansas tailback who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in each of the last two seasons.

Several media outlets reported on their Web sites McFadden agreed to a six-year deal worth up to $60 million, with $26 million guaranteed.

McFadden ran for 4,590 yards and 41 touchdowns in three seasons with the Razorbacks, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Though the Raiders were loaded with running backs, they decided McFaddenís talents were too big to pass up with the fourth overall pick.

McFadden participated in a three-day minicamp that wrapped up Thursday, and coach Lane Kiffin singled out McFadden for his quick acquisition of Oaklandís offense after just two short camps.

McFadden also got his contract done quickly. His agent, Ian Greengross, conducted negotiations in Alameda this week after McFadden expressed a strong desire to be signed before camp starts next month.

Oakland also apparently was motivated to make a timely deal after last seasonís troubles with Russell, the LSU quarterback selected with last springís top pick. Russell and the Raiders sat in a contract stalemate throughout training camp, and he didnít get on the field until December after signing his $61 million deal three days into the regular season.

The Raiders hope McFadden can be an immediate contributor after the club dumped veteran running back Dominic Rhodes and entertained trade offers for fellow veteran LaMont Jordan, who probably will be released later. Starter Justin Fargas and promising youngster Michael Bush also will be in Oaklandís backfield.

That was fast, I still can't get over the amount of money rookies are getting without even proving themselves on the field. I wish the NFL would put a cap on players and Tier it 1-10, 11-20, and 20-32 with contracts only lasting for 2 years with the 3rd being optional for a renegotiation for a long term bank breaking contract.

Regardless of having a "franchise" QB and RB, does anybody else get the impression that the Raiders will have yet another 4-5 win season in '08?

I've been wondering what Mendenhall and Sweed will be signing for. I hope that their signings are done before camp also. Stark's "long term" contract still needs to be resolved too. We don't need any diversions, distractions, or other sour grapes entering into the season.

History shows that they should get roughly 5% more than what WR Dwayne Bowe and CB Eric Wright got last year (the #23 and #53 picks in the '07 draft). Bowe got a five-year, $9 million contract from the Chiefs and Wright got a four-year, $3.165 million contract from the Stains. Hopefully, the deals get done quickly, because both of those guys could contribute immediately if they gets their behinds into camp on time.

Wonder if they have the same coach next year.
