Well, I certainly believe that certain refs (not the league) are in tight with Vegas...so I guess I'm an idiot.

I'm an idiot as well. It happened in the NBA, why can't it happen in the NFL?

Re: Why the NFL apologized for holding call in playoff game

Why? That's my question. Why would the NFL apologize for this. They wouldn't even acknowledge it. That call was no worse than any of a 100 other bad calls. If it was a bad call, and if the NFL could tie to the refs cheating, then you'd just see some refs be fired, or not invited back.

If the NFL doesn't know about it, and they apologized because they felt it was a legitimately bad call, then ok. You're theory holds water....

Aren't NBA refs full time refs? And aren't NFL refs mostly rich geezer lawyers? Where's the incentive? Unless one of them is in gambling trouble, or had a kid tied up in some Brooklyn basement... I'm not seeing it.

And if i were the NFL I'm doing some due damned diligence on making sure my refs do NOT have gambling problems...

So to sum up, sure its possible, I'm still not seeing it though.

If you believe that there is an active contingency of officials who fabricate or fail to make calls in order to manipulate the scores of games, then yeah, you pretty much deserve to be labeled with some type of unflattering tag. Look Shawn, I realize that you Jiga, or even Smartmonies for that matter are not lacking intelligence. Therefore throwing out the term "idiot" as a blanket statement, isn't what I'm talking about and was maybe a poor choice of words. It was also a general statement and I don't want to be guilty of throwing out the first insult, but you are seemingly taking an absurd position and need to be called on it if you are agreeing with MSM's rubbish.

Do you guys even realize just how impossible it would be to manipulate two key moments in a game when you are going into said game with the sole intent of doing just enough to cover a 2.5 point spread? I say that was a pretty efficient job of putting yourself in the right spot to make, then miss a call to do just enough to accomplish the mission. Or are you suggesting that Quirk did this throughout the game and it went undetected, other than on these two key plays?

Do you realize that every call made by every member of every officiating crew is scrutinized every week? How long do you think it would take for any single official to establish a pattern that raised concerns with the league? I'd say it wouldn't take too long. Since you are implying that multiple game officials are involved in this, you exponentially increase the amount of smoke in the air per crooked individual involved. How about the fact that league security investigates any possible connection a person affiliated with the league would gave with gambling. How long do you think an NFL game official could get away with a gambling problem or an association with some type of organized crime, especially when you consider that this is not an isolated incident you are proposing? The NFL is not the NBA. They are hyper-vigilant (despite TV ratings and interest associated with wagering) in distancing themselves from any type of gambling. The only way that any of this would be possible is if the NFL was just putting up a public front and in reality, looked the other way.

Do you think that Vegas or the mob regularly pays out millions to fix the comparative handful of games that have a chance to be impacted by an official's decisions? What if Scobee does miss that field goal, or we decide to attack them with the short passing game throughout the 1st half and it's not even close in the end? All of the money paid to that official (or officials) is now wasted. Since a similar scenario would occur with a high degree of regularity, it would seem that the guys in Vegas would stick with better odds.

The bottom line is that none of us know for sure if it happens or not, but that also holds true for alien abductions, Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster. There is always a possibility that I am wrong and some clan of smelly, hairy, giant, bi-pedal ape inhabit every corner of this planet...I just seriously doubt it.

I fully admit that an individual could fall victim to bribery or coercion and impact the outcome of a game, but this is not what MSM is claiming. It would be impossible without the active involvement of the league for an individual or especially a group conduct such an effort on a continued or even frequent basis. That is what you guys are advocating and in doing so you open yourself up for criticism in the same way you would for telling us all you were abducted by aliens.

On a side note: MSM, what is your hang-up with this game? First you come on here last week and start talking about how the better team advanced in that game and we went as far as we should have. That's complete garbage coming from a Steeler fan and I think I did a sound job of making that point in this thread.

Now you come on here and start claiming that the only reason we lost was because of a concerted effort by the refs. What the hell is your point?

    This reeks of troll-like douchebaggery.

    Thanks for the post MSM.
See, I'm just the opposite...when someone points out how this "just happened" to work out (implying games being fixed) I think of the thousands of times it doesn't work out.

That's really all there is to it. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but my mind is always
open to the possibility that someone was "got to" when big money is involved.

I am not as foolish enough to believe that couldn't happen, but to include the NFL as if they are involved is what is foolish in my opinion. That is where MSM lost me.

Does anyone believe Stern or the NBA was involved in their scandal?
He who forgets, will be destined to remember.
