I know I'm late to the party but I've recently been studying cellular automata which led me eventually to digital physics and digital philosophy.
The implications of cellular automata are mind-blowing, IMO. Digital physics and digital philosophy are pretty out there but I found both of them very thought provoking.
Is this like the complex explanation of The Matrix movie? I think I'm gonna have to wait for the Cellular Automation for dummies book to come out before I have a chance at understanding any of this.
