Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
Intial word is that he is ok. X-rays are negative. Of course that doesn't mean he couldn't have some sort of ligamentous tear. I wouldn't be surprised if they do an MRI on Monday. I would pretty much guarantee he sits for the Ohio game so they can have him fresh and healthy for USuCk. :)
BTW: Terrell Pryor makes it look so easy. I know it was YSU but the kid didn't look a bit nervous. He throws a nice ball and he can flat out run.

You better hope so..... Only 43 points against YSU???? Heck, SoCal put up 52 against a div 1-A team..............

You had to watch the game to understand. We had our third stringers playing in the first half and on and off through out the game. It looked more like a scrimmage than a real football game. Not to mention it's Tressells old school...no need to beat em 98-0...ya know?

NKy, you need to understand Tressel's logic in all this. It's what I call the "Tressel Way".
So they only put 43 on Y-Town? Hell, they only hung 38 on them last year. This year's game was a shutout. Last year's wasn't. Read into that what you will. The bottom line to all of that is this: Tressel doesn't run up the score.
Occasionally, you'll see a Tressel coached team score over 50. That's not a real common thing, but it does happen...usually later in the season.
And what does tOSU only getting 43 say about Y-Town's defense? I suppose they could have laid down on tOSU and the Buckeyes could have hung 65 on them. That wasn't going to happen yesterday. Tressel was going to put all of his players in, partly out of necessity to get them some playing time but also because he doesn't see the logic to running up the score. That is the Tressel Way.
YSU is an elite I-AA program in large part because of Tressel. And Heacock has done well in keeping the program on a high level after inheriting the job from Tressel as an assistant.
We'll see how well USC does against tOSU. They have home field and are coming off a fairly convincing win at Virginia. I'm impressed. But not so long as I don't see that against the Buckeyes.

I hear 'ya bh... I just like to tease Shawn about them. I've been doing it from the very beginning, and we have alot of fun with it. It just makes it a bit more "interesting"...
...Not to mention that USC is just a better football team with alot more depth.... :stirpot
Seriously though, I respect the "not running up the score" bit... Even though I am a USC fan, I've never liked watching teams do that. Really, I don't... Yesterdays' game against Virginia was somewhat out of character for USC... Usually (in the past 2-3 years) the games are extremely close in the first half, before they pull away in the second. Yesterday was just all USC from the beginning.
It will be very interesting in two weeks, and quite possibly one of the best games of the college season...
...Sorry you'll miss the post-game show due to crying and a broken heart... Better get another box of tissues ahead of time.... :stirpot
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
tOSU fanbase is in a panic. Beanie is the offense. He is the only reason we can pass at all. Teams have to put 8-9 in the box when he is on the field. And he will still run for 150 on virtually any D in the nation.
He heard a pop. Even though the X-rays are negative...I haven't seen too many people that was totally ok after "hearing a pop". I hear he will get an MRI this week...which I wouldn't be surprised if it showed some ligamentous damage.
If Beanie is out for the USC game...tOSU is in a heap of trouble. They have good backs but all are speedsters. None will beat on a D.
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
The latest was that he is continuing treatment and walking on a boot. Tressel was told by position coaches and trainers he'd likely be doubtful for this week. Tressel saw Beanie later that day and was amazed to find that he looked waaay better than that initial prognosis. It doesn't mean he will play this week, but he was pleased to see him movin around pretty good.

I am just speechless that they haven't done an MRI of the foot yet. Wow.
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
They probably did and are just going to keep it on the down low. I don't think they want to reveal too much and will just say its a foot and he's getting treatment. Heck for all we know it really could be his ankle. Tressel possibly playing some Belicheat mind games.

You're doing a lot of this, mister :stirpot :stirpot :stirpot
At least the stew won't scorch the bottom of the pot.
Whether I miss the post game or not, I probably won't give a damn. I'm going on a winery tour up in Ashtabula County that day, then camping out in the host's back yard that night. Let's just say that I probably won't be feeling any pain either way. :Beer (only with wine)
There'll probably have a set on and we'll be watching the Bucks plumb the vaunted USC depth with some of their own.
I'll agree that it'll be the game of the season, or at least the game of the season for both teams.
USC is #1 at this point (which means nothing for anybody), but I'm sure they will have the target on their back where the Buckeyes are concerned anyway.
We'll see. tOSU will be ready for the USC onslaught.
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
New word is it was something with Beanie's toe? Honestly, I think he is good to go come game day.
Could we beat USC without Beanie? On their home turf without the center piece of our O? Unlikely. We would have to do some sets with 4 wide...Mo Wells in the backfield and Terrell Pryor...lots of short dumps and option runs. I honestly think thats how you score on that D.
With Wells? I believe tOSU comes out the #1 team in the nation and sends Carson to dry his tears with his Bengals do-rag.

Here's my issue with your contention of OSU being a top tier BCS team.... the whole team's season is based on the health of one player's foot. Without wells OSU wouldn't even be in the top 10. Wells is a talent, without a doubt. But OSU's prosperity can't be balanced on the shoulders of one single player. Mark it down now. OSU will not be in the hunt for the National Championship come season's end. Do they have a top flight defensive leader in All-American James Laurinaitis? Absofugginlutely! But to beat the likes of teams like USC, Georgia, Florida.... you need to put up some serious points and I don't think Beanie can do it all. Sorry my brother, I just don't see it happening.

Well, I personally have my doubts about tOSUs O. With that said, Beanie is a beast. You must place at least 8 in the box to have a chance. This opens everything else up. Without Beanie we are still a top 10 team because of our D. We always have a good D but this could be the best D we have ever had. Teams still have to score on us....which won't be easy. And who knows what kind of O we might have if Terrell Pryor gets some PT.
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
26-14 against Ohio..... Sure, they HAD to be looking past them to next week, but OSUs' defense still looked peekid.
I gotta agree with AS.... A true championship-caliber team is just that... A TEAM, not one player (as in depending upon).
...If Wells isn't 100% next Saturday, they don't stand a snowballs' chance of beating USC. Personally, I don't think they stand a chance with him either, but that's why they play the game.
Buckle-up buckaroo, next Saturday is against the "big boys", not measly Ohio....
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
I am just disgusted. This is tOSUs HUGE problem. Some games they are so flat they just play like ass. If they come to USC playing like that it will be a blow out. They will get embarassed. They could have Barry Sanders in his prime and it wouldn't help. Leave me to lick my wounds.
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
Shawn, as a Pitt guy (including my family), I truly understand your sense of disgust right now... Remember, Pitt lost to BG last week...
Out of respect, because I really DO understand your sentiments this evening, I'll pass on comments right now. ... As a friend, I will once again offer the fact that they HAD to be looking past this week, and any game is up for grabs... I say this as a friend because I know you are seriously pissed about this latest outing....
"Game On" .... a little later in the week....

It's the story of being a tOSU fan. All the potential in the world only to stink up the field against mediocre opponents. I'll get over it.

sOSU sucks.
GO GATORS--- WE didn't have trouble against Miami!
at least sOSU blew out YSU...
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
Rather irrelevent birt..... This isn't a Gator thread.....
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
any time i can take a shot at sOSU i will. If they want to claim to be the best then you have to play like the best. I find it relevant. when teams are vying for the top spot then you have to deal with it. Beanie Wells does not make sOSU the #1 team in the nation. They are not a great TEAM they wont be a great TEAM they're gonna have to deal with jabs from great TEAMS!

Buckeyes expect big-game Beanie against USC
September 9, 2008 4:56 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- As Chris "Beanie" Wells watched from the sideline last Saturday, his value to Ohio State's offense rose with every stalled drive and stuffed rushing attempt.
Wells undoubtedly would have provided a lift for the Buckeyes against Ohio. Ultimately, they didn't need him to win the game.
Saturday's matchup against top-ranked USC (ABC, 8 p.m. ET) is a different deal. Wells adds credibility to the Buckeyes' offense whenever he steps on the field, but his worth in big games is especially noteworthy.
Wells finished the 2007 season by playing his best at the most critical points. After Michigan State rallied to make things interesting last year in Columbus, Wells took over in the second half and finished with 221 yards. He had three second-half rushing touchdowns as Ohio State rallied against Wisconsin, and he saved his top performance for archrival Michigan, racking up a career-high 222 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The BCS national championship wasn't a shining moment for many Ohio State players, but Wells still finished with 146 rushing yards, including a 65-yard touchdown scamper, against an LSU defense that ranked ninth nationally against the run.
"He's such a great player," Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman said. "He can do so many things for you. He's got speed, he's powerful, he's strong, he can catch the ball out of the backfield. It just helps us out so much."
Wells will play Saturday night at the L.A. Coliseum. His effectiveness remains a question after a right foot/toe injury, but his big-game track record heightens hopes for the Buckeyes.
"He's a great leader," tackle Bryant Browning said. "When he thinks the offense is down, he gets after us. ... Him playing is going to be a real big help. He's a great player, as everybody knows. He makes big plays. Just having him around really helps the team."
But what if Wells can only help in a limited role? Unlike USC, famous and feared for its annual stable of running backs, Ohio State drops off a bit after Wells.
Redshirt freshman Dan "Boom" Herron likely will get the first shot behind Wells on Saturday after taking the bulk of the carries against Ohio. Senior Maurice Wells is the most experienced reserve but hasn't shown the ability to take over. Expect a greater role for sophomore Brandon Saine, who had only five carries last week and missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury.
"I don't think you can diminish the effect of missing 20-plus practices in the preseason that has slowed Brandon a little bit," head coach Jim Tressel said. "That was good to get him back in there, plus the practice time, he picked up this past week and this particular week."
Chris Wells told Tressel on Monday that he wanted 45 carries against the Trojans. That's wishful thinking coming off an injury, and Ohio State has faith in its other runners.
"Danny Herron is an extremely tough kid," linebacker James Laurinaitis said. "We have other guys that can carry the load."
Re: OSUs' "Beanie" Scare...
Nky I know that article came out on the 9th, but from what i'm hearing, wells is doubtful, though i expect him to get some time.
if he can't go, sOSU has NO chance. USC is pretty damn good. I really think that sOSU is very overrated. (if you haven't figured that out yet... lol)
