Let's go Bucs!
And I don't mean Tampa Bay! It been a generation but starting tonight, every Steelers fan should be pulling for the Pirates to take two out of the next three games for a "play in" game at home.
Personally, I would take another Steelers loss this Sunday in exchange for the Pirates taking the series against the Reds.

I told God a few years ago I would give up a Steeler season to see the Pirates get over .500...
Playoffs are icing on the cake but now that they are in it I wouldn't mind seeing them get past this 1 game play in game. I'm still hoping St. Louis finds a way to lose the rest of their games.

I'm not really concerned about this series. Just gotta win that 1 game in Pittsburgh or Cincy. I'm more concerned about who ends up pitching that 1 game. I'd personally go with Cole who seems to be on a hot streak vs Liriano who would probably get the start. Liriano hasn't been great lately and I don't think he's ever beat the Reds.

Ive missed the last handful of games especially with living in columbus currently BUT wasnt there some talk about Burnett being on the mound? Im not sure id want Cole pitching considering his inexperience but the hot hand is the hot hand and or arm. Either way i was 10 the last time the bucs were in the post season. Super pumped.

Burnett is pitching tonite. Ge seems to win every other start. He did have a good game against Cincy in his last start. I don't know if it would make sense to come back to him again on a short rest. But odds are he's gonna lose tonight and then win his next start.

Some of us fans didn't have the luxury of growing up in one home town because, in my situation father was in Army and lived in Germany twice, MO,TX,NJ,VA,etc...get the picture.
Steeler fan now for 38 years and Red Sox fan for 45 years.....
The quote was all Steeler fans should be pirate fans which, doesn't make since for a lot of people....

Yes exciting games being played in September by the Bucs for the first time since I was 3 years old... Let's Go Bucs!!
-
Im pulling for the Bucs but no way do I want to see my Steelers lose. I am a diehard Steeler fan regardless of what the Bucs are doing!!!

It's like telling a Pirates fan you root for the Bengals or the Browns. They both are evil. What's next Washington Capitals fans among us? :)

Looks like the Cubbies aren't coming thru for us :( They're down 3-0 to the Cards.

6 home runs today to secure the one game playoff game will be in the Burgh!!

Came to Pittsburgh for the series last week on my way back to NY from North Carolina. Love the Pirates and with the invention of MLB.tv I've become a big fan. Can't wait for Tuesday Night!! Big Party at the Smythe Residence.

I can respect the Cards, they've got some good history with great classy players (Stan Musial for one) but they are the enemy. Can't respect the classless Reds, or Caps, Ravens, Browns, Bengals, Cowboys, Phillies, Rangers, Flyers, or most other teams.

When I think of the Cards, I think of Roberto breaking Bob Gibson's leg with a line drive. I definitely don't hate the Cards as much as I do any of the other teams you mentioned. It must be because I don't really think in terms of baseball rivals any more because the Bucs have been so bad for so long. I barely remember even hating the Braves for ruining our World Series chances in the early 90s.
I can't believe 92 was the last time we saw the Pirates in the playoffs. That seems like a lifetime ago. But I still vividly remember the noodle armed Barry Bonds in shallow left field allowing Sid Bream to score all the way from 2nd base.
Hopefully this year's stars aren't planning to sleep thru the playoffs like Bonds, Bonilla, and Van Slyke did in the early 90s. How sweet would it be if the Pirates could somehow pull off a World Series victory this year?
-
Never been a big baseball fan, but I have to say that I really enjoyed watching the Bucco's in 79. I went to grade school with Tim Foli's daughter and would later date a very good friend of mine throughout middle and high school. That "We are family" team was fun to watch..... two things that stand out from my failing memory.... 1) Kent Tekulve was a badazz and 2) Omar Moreno had the most awkward batting stance with that front right leg extended out..... anyhow, saw a piece on E60 about Andrew McCutchen.... pretty classy and humble guy.

Those were my final days of baseball. Once those guys got sold off I became emotionally uncommitted to the Bucs. Now I look at MLB with passing interest and watch about one game a year. If they win the one game playoff against the Reds, maybe I will reinvest.

The Pirates are definitely in my blood. I was 8 years old when the '60 series happened, and saw parts of the games on black and white TV, saw Hal Smith's 3 run homer and Maz's HR. Saw many games at Forbes, used to take a bus down to the games. sit in RF as close to Clemente as I could get, and my father would work late and meet me at the game. Once got Clemente and Willie Mays autographs on a scorecard; they were together late after the game outside of Forbes (got thrown out with some baseball cards). The '71 series was great, Roberto's great showcase. Went to two cold and drizzly games in the '79 series, both losses, but a couple of great pitching performances pulled us through. It is great to see them back in the playoffs, and brings back many wonderful memories.

Baseball is really just filler until football starts and it's not a real good filler at that

Baseball's the main course this season. I think too many guys said they'd trade anything for the Pirates to make the playoffs after 21 years. So God finally caved and made the Steelers suck in exchange.

World Series or Bust!!!!!! Let's go Buccos!!!!!!
Anyone else nervous? I've been on edge all day. Liriano's never beat the Reds although he pitches well at home. I'm also nervous about Cueto who's had some success against us. Uuuuuuhhhhh!!!! And it's making me nervous that we just swept the Reds. It's tough to beat a team 4 times in a row in baseball.
But we can do it. I believe!!! Gotta believe in something these days.

I'd hate it but I would take an 0-16 Steelers for a Pirates World Series win. I would take solace in the prize of a real LT in the draft.

I hate we are playing the Reds. I remember how many times in the 70s they ruined seasons for us. We always seem to struggle against the Reds.

Only 40 minutes till October baseball returns to Pittsburgh. Lets go Bucs!!!

Lets Go Bucs... 20 years... 20 long years.

I'm starting to bounce off the walls. Just ran out to get some pizza before the game. I'm going crazy over here. What else is new? :)
-
Anyone gonna be in chat tonight for the game? All these lame friends of mine could care less about baseball, so I'm watching the game alone.
-
I have this nervous, anxious but excited feeling that's been missing since '92. I'm pumped! Let's Go Bucs!!!
-
I just read the average ticket price for the Pirates game is $322. It's over a 500% markup. For these prices, they better win.

I'll be in the chat room with u flip

I am a die hard Reds fan. Been one since 1972. Not sure where you get that the Reds are a classless franchise?? How is that? Explain please.
And remember, if not for the Reds franchise, we dont have this thing called professional baseball....;)
-
..And for the record, I am glad to see the Pirates where they are right now. Baseball is better when they are good. And congratulations to them and their fans on the win yesterday. They are a better team top to bottom than the Reds are right now. I saw thing coming a long time ago for the Reds. As long as Dusty Baker is their manager this team will not win anything.
I hope the Pirates win it all this year.
