James Harrison is about to become a Bengal.
Harrison, the longtime Steelers linebacker, has agreed to terms with the division rival Bengals. It’s a two-year contract, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The deal comes shortly after Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he expected to sign either Harrison or veteran linebacker Karlos Dansby before the draft, but that the Bengals wouldn’t sign both of them. Hearing that may have been just the message Harrison needed to agree to terms before the Bengals lost interest.
And now the Bengals’ two games with the Steelers will get a little more interesting: Harrison sacking Ben Roethlisberger would certainly fire up the fan base in Cincinnati, and would lead to Harrison hearing plenty of boos in Pittsburgh. He’ll get to face the Steelers twice this year, and he’s already expressing his excitement.
Whodey!!!!!!!!!!! Hello Cincinnati!!!!

Wish James well in 14 of 16 games. Maybe in one of the other two, when Gilbert falls, he will fall on him.
Can we bring Brenden Morrow in for a try-out? The guy is a beast on the ice.

Douglas Murray's been throwin it around as well.
I have a feeling this is not going to end well for the steelers.

True , that. Take them both and add Jerome. It's a winner.

i think it will work out fine. no sense wasting money on a player of jims age and injury history(especially when this team wont be contending for a few years) and get a chance to see what we have in worlids. throw in the fact that jim is a targeted guy by goodellthat i think hurts the team overall when it comes to infraction, rules, fines and refereeing

Not surprised by this signing, but disappointed. I concur with other posters, don't see the Bungles being a particularly good fit for Deebo. I think he could have had another good year with the Steelers.

Call me crazy! I can see a healthy, motivated JH putting up ten, eleven sacks for cincy and putting that team over the top....
Nah, we need to draft the new James Harrison in the 4th Rd: Lerentee Mcray out of Florida. This guy plays like his hair is on fire.

Agree! If we only would just draft them.... Naw, we're drafting Bruce Davis, Chris Carter, Sean Spence and Stevenson Sylvester.
I don't expect him to have double-digit sacks unless they change their D to a 3-4 base.
In any case Harrison will help the Bengals, in the meantime it feels like the steelers are treading water the last few months.

i agree, it could put them over the top but the steelers are a long way from the top. and thats why i am glad he isnt eating up our cap space and taking playing time away from our young guys
DEEBO is an exceptional football player. he wasn't limited to being a one trick pony. however he was awful in pursuit last year (especially in covering crossing patterns). He might be able to rush the QB still but that's about it.
hope he continues to torture flacco.
that's the only upside I see.

Harrison is dead to me. Never existed as a Steeler as far as I'm concerned. Going to a Division rival is low.
Now let's hear how the poor guy deserves to make a living so his family doesn't starve and how much vitriol I have towards poor James.
It'll take him 5 years to learn the 4-3 D. That's about as good a place as he could land.

I thought they were all replaceable carbon units?
do you hope he gets injured too, like with wallace? I just don't get your personal animosity towards a guy who goes somewhere else to make a living. James Harrison is a big reason the steelers have that last trophy. To say he "never existed" seems excessive and childish.
hey, he needs a job and the bungles offered. no hate for deebo here. he was a great steeler. as for him having a great game against us - i suspect the steelers have a very good idea what his strengths and weaknesses are and MAY just gameplan to take advantage of it. then again, you never know.

I thought someone mentioned on here that no teams need to game plan for James any longer, because he's over the hill. I kind of hope he is since he isn't a Steeler, but I won't be surprised in the least if he has a good year with the Bengals. He's a workout warrior and 110% effort guy, so one thing is for sure if he's done it won't be from a lack of effort.

Grow up. This is how the guy makes a living.
I'm not sure how you make a living, but are you suggesting that you would never work for a competitor if your current employer asked you to take a cut and then terminated you?
And we don't need to remind you again of the vitriol in your posts about James. Your diatribes are well known.

Holy mackerel Ovi, did Harrison kick your dog, steal your lunch money, or break off a long engagement with your sister? Geesh, what did Harrison do to you or your family? Man, that's harsh, when you have that kind of hatred for a person looking to make a living, albeit a good one.

This is Crash worthy Hines hate...lol. Im sure he is proud...
The Bengals won't use him properly for him to be quite the sack machine he could be. However, he'll be tough against the run which is important in the AFCN with Rice and Richardson. He also knows how to train and win. What he may bring to that locker room might be more dangerous than what he brings on the field.
Maybe now I'll be able to get a better deal on a Harrison Steelers jersey?

Heard some coach mention that it's hard for any guy no matter who he is and what his character may be to work himself into the chemistry of the locker room for 1-2 years. It just takes that long to earn the respect and a voice amongst your teammates. There's already team leaders and it takes work for a new guy to work his way in.
So in essence they were suggesting a young FA might work, but the older guys typically don't work out for a new team in the NFL.
Unless you're the Pats who can seem to work any malcontent into their way of doing things. The Bengals are a mess though from a leadership perspective.
I do think the one thing James will bring is more penalties for everyone in Cincy.

I wish JH all the best in his life off the field..i wish him best of his health rest of his life but i wish nothing but epic failure on field now that he is a Bunghole....
I hope he is humilated on national TV...I want to see JH getting trucked Trent Rickardson..what a sight that will be....
JH92 will have his best game against the Steelers because coach will tell our boys to go easy on him...Steelers Defense will beg coaches to make sure JH has a god game...Apart from Steelers game i think he will suck big time...
JH should have gone in NFC..i would have cheered for him..A strong season for JH is a bad news for Steelers since he is playing for divisional rival....so yeah i hope he fails...
IMO James has been an iconic Steeler. I am disappointed that James is not a Steeler or did not retire a Steeler. James has a choice in the matter, of course.
I won't hate on James at all. I won't be affected by anyone being disaffected with James, and I will appreciate the positives many on the board have for James. I hope that if he plays poorly against the Steelers, that we win both Bungle games. I hope he knocks Flacco over like a Jenga tower until he cries out of his unibrow.

I get what you are saying, but my impression is that Harrison is a loner-type of player that other guys generally stay away from. Might not be true, but he comes off that way anyway....
They'll use him as a cover backer... they're not thinking pass rush, which is probably better for James from a health standpoint. His back and knee injuries, IMO, have much to do with having tackles 6 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier than he is grab him around the shoulder pads and bend him backwards 30 times a game. They're envisioning the Massoquoi and Cribbs hits from the Cleveland games years ago in coverage, and making the shallow flats a dangerous place for opposing backs, tight ends and receivers... I'm more worried about the health of Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, et al, than that of Ben playing opposite James. OTOH, I can also envision speed guys running away from him regularly at this advanced stage of his career to the point where he ends up on the bench.
hope he continues to torture flacco.
that's the only upside I see.
Exactly, and remember they signed Elvis Dumervil while he was in the facility. That probably stung as well.
Has anyone herd the size of the contract? that should be intersting....

It may be that a former DPOY (who was a close runner-up a second time) that has 2 SB rings and 3 AFC Championships on his resume might command a bit more respect on a young team that is trying to learn to win. Schematically, he probably won't have huge sack numbers. However, his work ethic and drive will make him formidable for as long as he can stay healthy.
I really don't see him as a penalty machine if he's not rushing the QB so much.

i would try to make a living by taking a job that offered me more money than the one i just walked away from.................obviously, james doesnt agree wtih me.............lol
I look at Harrison as Bengal against us as this, we get that second weapon as a TE and he would probably be forced to cover him. From what I have seen of him the last few years, like 08 superbowl he is usually trailing the receiver he is assigned. He just does not have the wheels for the chase anymore.

If we got a 6'5" TE that knows how to position himself to get the ball, it will be hard for any 5'11" player to cover him.
Bengals likely used Dansby to leverage Harrison
Posted by Mike Florio on April 20, 2013
When linebacker James Harrison agreed to terms with the Bengals, our first thought was that the Bengals had extended an offer both to Harrison and linebacker Karlos Dansby, with a simple message: Whoever accepts first gets the job.
That’s the obvious inference flowing from comments by coach Marvin Lewis suggesting that one of the two linebackers, but not both, will be signed before the draft.
While it’s possible that the Bengals were going to sign Dansby if they didn’t sign Harrison, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Dansby heard not a peep from the Bengals since visiting the team on April 10. This suggests that the Bengals used the possibility of signing Dansby as leverage to close the deal with Harrison, with whom the Bengals had been regularly negotiating.
It’s a valid tactic, and it apparently worked. How well it worked will depend on the details of Harrison’s contract.
The fact that nothing has been leaked from Harrison’s camp regarding the value of the deal means that, from Harrison’s perspective, the deal likely isn’t anything to crow about.
