Anyone think Dwyer still doesn't deserve more carries? I still think he might be our best RB. Seriously the only real knock on Dwyer in the past was his fitness. Now he comes to camp in the best shape of his life and he looks great every time he touches the ball.

Dwyer isn't the Steelers best running back. But, he is a guy who plays well when he is hungry for carries. If you look at Dwyer's stats he thrives coming off the bench in relief but does poorly as THE GUY. He is also no threat in the passing game...and with Miller looking bad, and Brown dropping balls we need all the help we can get there.
I like him in his current role. And, getting him a few more carries might help this squad. But, I hope Tomlin always looks to keep him hungry for carries.

He should probably leap frog Jones, but not Bell...

I can agree with that.

I was looking up stats and found something interesting. While Bell isn't blowing up the league behind this porous OL...he has had 6 quiet good games of production. If you extrapolate his stats out over a 16 game season...he would have 1400 yards and 10 TDs of total offense. Not bad for a rookie playing behind quite possibly the worst OL in the NFL.

The one concern I have about Bell is his speed. Im not sure he's a threat to get outside or break a big run. I like the way he runs, but we need more of a threat to put pressure on opposing Ds. And he still needs work as a blocker.

My understanding was that the Steelers took him with the knock that he wasn't going to be a speed threat. They wanted the consistent yards more than the occasional home run. He's the anti-Willie Parker.

I thought he'd have a little more of a burst to put a little pressure on the D. But he really is somewhat limited to mostly running between the tackles. That said, I'd like to see a more consistent 5 YPC out of him rather than his 3.3 YPC. And I know our line isn't the best and should be helping him out more.
I really do like the way he decisively hits a hole and I think he makes the most out of every run. But even a guy like Dwyer can run physical yet have the patients to string a run to the outside and burst through a hole for a decent gain. And I think that threat of even a little speed means the D has to respect it with a S which can open up the passing game a little.
Getting a TE contributing on O might help open things up in the middle over time for Bell to be more consistently successful. I'm not trying to be hard on Bell, but I do think he still has some work to get a lot better at this point. And his improving success is only going to make PA that much more effective and open up the downfield passing game. And that's what we need to get going to really get Haley's offense clicking.

Bell will be fine, IMO. Of course he still has things to work on. He is a rook after all. The blocking will get better. He will improve on the little things that will bring his average up a bit and we will have a consistent RB. We can then bring in Jones or Dwyer for the odd burst.

I think he deserves alot more time on the field. He runs hard everytime he gets the ball and behind our putrid OL he still seems to get positive yards.
