Steelers reportedly believe Mike Wallace could end up with the Browns

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, some people within the Steelers organization believe that wide receiver Mike Wallace could end up with the Browns, since they have so much cap room.

"The Browns have about $30 million in space and will be big spenders under new owner Jimmy Haslam and team president Joe Banner. Many in the Steelers organization believe Wallace will end up with their division rivals in Cleveland (Haslam was a former minority owner of the Steelers), and the Browns could make a play for a pass rusher like Kruger, too. There’s no doubt the Browns need a number one receiver and they have the money to get one this offseason."

I'm thinking Wallace goes to the Colts, they also have cap room and a good QB. They could make some noise with Wayne & Wallace pounding secondary's.

I hope Wallace does go to the Browns and we get two chances a year to decapitate him coming across the middle.

Wallace is going to be lethal paired across from TY Hilton in Indy with Andrew Luck throwing to him.

I got news for you, Wallace is going to double his receptions if he lands with a team that has a good QB like the Colts. Wallace, Wayne ,. and their other top receiver will become SURE money.

Say what you want about Wallace but we will miss him and that you can take to the bank.

Now if he goes to a team like New England, I don't care who we have @ CB he'll make Lewis or Swaggin seem like Harvey Clayton.:)

I never thought the deep ball was Bens strong point. To me Ben has no touch on it when it comes to throwing an accurate rainbow so, Wallace was not always getting the ball to him as needed. In addition to that, Wallace needs a QB to put the ball in is hands because seldom do you see Wallace fight for a ball or have sticky fingers.
It is what it is with this because it's all about money for Wallace and he's welcomed to it. We don't have a corner that can cover him, a front office that can pay him or a quarterback that can get him the ball or an OC that has that type of pass game in mind.

I'd like to keep Wallace but I have to say, no one vanishes quicker than Wallace in the big games. We've won championship games without him and that's how I see it.

I think Indy or Carolina Panthers will be a great fit for Wallace.

I am not sure though that Mike Wallace will flourish in New England. Mike Wallace is a great one trick pony and the best Steelers WR..but he aint Randy Moss..I don't think Tom Brady has the best deep ball in the game..and when reality hits MW that Gronk is their numero uno he will sulk..

The Browns already have a developing deep threat in Josh Gordon...he averaged over 16 YpC and scored 5 TDs as a rookie...

If you already have that guy on your roster, why would you pay an exhorbitant amount of money for Wallace?

Let me clarify, that if we lose Wallace I rather him go to a team with a mediocre QB like the Browns instead of a team like the Colts or a Ne.

While Washington may be a good fit, they just spent fairly heavily on two FA WRs last season...but, with Daniel Snyder, who knows?

I think the Rams would be a good fit for Wallace. They have Bradford as their QB and Amendola as the possession guy. Adding a vertical receiver like Wallace would open things up for them.

I would like to see Wallace stay in Black and Gold for a reasonable salary but I realize that probably isn't happening.

don't know their cap situation, but, Arizona seems to make the most sense to me... him back with Arians, who likes the deep ball... and on the other side of Fitz... scary.

They have the worst QBs, top to bottom, as any team in the NFL. Who is gonna get him the ball? I think the Skins are the most likely.

If this thread has shown anything, there are a number of teams that could make a play for Wallace, who could have a robust market. If the Steelers can clear the cap space, I would still like to see them franchise and trade him. If you didn't get a first last year, you won't get one this year, but maybe you get a second or a third? If you don't get a trade offer you like, you can anticipate that he'll hold out again and you can pull the tag.

Franchise and trade would be great, but where are you going to get the space?

Factor in for Restricted Free Agents, Lewis, and the rookie salary pool you have to set aside.

All this in addition to being 12 million over the cap already and there is no way to clear enough room to franchise Wallace for a trade.

Kevin Kolb is solid... we forget him cuz of the injuries.. He'll be back, starting.

Any team that has a good QB, mike will help and probably do well, but if he goes somewhere with a lousy QB he'll ride into the sunset and we won't hear much about him.

It would be next to impossible, I agree. That was more of a wish than a serious thought...

It's very unlikely the Steelers will have any money at all to sign FA's. It's going to be a challenge just for them to sign their own and get cap compliant.
The draft is our only option at this point, our hope is the picks we choose can contribute to the team, and possibly get a starter or two in the near future.

yep... he will definitely have some big catches but you will see him disappear and disappoint in games as well. He isn't worth the money IMO.

If you "never thought the deep ball was Bens strong point", then you simply haven't been paying attention too well. Ben's career YPA is among the top current QB's in the game.

I believe he ends up in San Fran.

With the Steelers not planning to use the franchise tag on receiver Mike Wallace or any other player, Wallace will go to the highest bidder.

With the Steelers not inclined or able to be the highest bidder for any player, Wallace will go somewhere other than Pittsburgh.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports something that has been obvious to us for weeks: Wallace will be the top free-agent target for the Dolphins.

Wallace perfectly fits Miami’s needs, both from a football and a business standpoint. As to the former (and as we’ve been saying), a field-stretching receiver (something Greg Jennings isn’t) opens up the rest of the offense for everyone else. By drawing attention deep, the slot receiver and the tight ends can find plenty of room to operate, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill will have an even better opportunity to develop.

As to the latter, landing a player like Wallace can generate excitement in the fan base, take attention away from that basketball team in Miami (if only for a day), and maybe help sell some tickets and jerseys and hats and other stuff bearing the soon-to-be-unveiled new logo.

Of course, Wallace and his agent will know that, allowing them to apply a thumb or two (or other appendages) to the scale. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross may not care. He has both the cash and the cap space to overpay Wallace, and after failing in high-profile fashion to land guys like Jim Harbaugh in 2011 and both Jeff Fisher and Peyton Manning last year, we’ve got a feeling Ross will be ready to hand Wallace a blank check.

That said, there’s a chance that, yet again, Ross will end up providing the leverage for the deal that the target gets done elsewhere.
