Tebow doesn't shine in the Senior Bowl
I posted this last night, but it went missing somehow in the interim -
I was just wondering how consistently people that just burn up the college football scene, for example Tebow, Vince Young, Leinert, etc. so often seem to lay a goose egg when they get to the NFL.
And, conversely, some low draft picks seem to do very well (Brady, Fellaco, etc.).
Why, at the QB position, is it so hard to predict NFL success from college performance? I know there's a lot more running in college at the QB position, but shouldn't the team draft gurus be able to handicap that better than they historically have done (Leinert, for example).
Thanks for your thoughts!

Tebow grades out poorly at Senior Bowl
By Chris Low
ESPN.com
Judging by Tim Tebow's Senior Bowl performance and the grades he received during his week of practice in Mobile, Ala., he still has a lot of proving to do before anybody thinks he can be a successful quarterback in the NFL.
At this point, the challenge doesn't appear to be whether he can improve his stock enough to be taken in the first round. Rather, it's whether he can improve enough to be taken in the second round ... or even the third round.
Todd McShay of ESPN's Scouts Inc. gave Tebow a D+ for the week and said from an on-the-field standpoint that the week couldn't have gone worse for Tebow.
While noting that Tebow played through strep throat, McShay wrote: "In a group of merely adequate quarterback prospects, Tebow ranked near the bottom, and we walk away from Mobile believing he might never be an NFL quarterback. He will have to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up to have a chance, and we cannot remember one NFL quarterback who had to retool his entire game before finding success in the NFL. Teams that might have been considering Tebow in the late first or somewhere in the second round now have to re-evaluate."
Those sound like some pretty long odds for the one of the best college players the SEC has ever seen.
That said, Tebow thrives on people doubting him. All he needs is one team to believe in him and put him in a position to make plays.
I've always felt that for Tebow to be successful at the NFL level as a quarterback that a franchise was going to have to tailor its offense around Tebow's strengths. He's never going to be able to run the ball as much as he did in college, and he clearly has flaws when it comes to his delivery.
But I wouldn't write him off just yet. Somebody's going to take a shot on him. It might be the second round. It might be the third round. It might be even later.
Let's wait and see what happens when the real lights come on.[/quote]
Re: Tebow doesn't shine in the Senior Bowl
I didn't expect tebow to do well at the senior bowl. nor do i expect him to do well in the NFL for his first 2-3 seasons. He has his issues. But like he said, he went to Florida and was asked to do something one way, so that's the way he did. when he gets to the pros, he'll do what they ask him to do it. One thing no-one can say about tim is that he isn't coachable and he will work his arse off. the kid is a football player in every sense of the word.
those other guys don't hold a candle to tim's work ethic. that's why they don't succeed, they have all the talent in the world, but they still had issues coming out. difference is they weren't willing to work to get to be a good pro qb.

I've been really annoyed by kiper the past few days. he's been dogging on tebow like he was dodging workouts and trying to get out of things. that's not tim. you have to pry him off the football field.

Tebow would make a hell of a fullback...
And you can say what you want about Vince Young, but that guy wins football games...
The Titans went 0-6 and put in VY...they finished 8-2...

Tebow will never be half the QB Ben is. ;)

yea but the year before they went 13-3 or better i can't reember.
it's easy to win when you have a 2000+yd rb.
He doesn't win football games, that team has shown they can win without him.
all they have to do is not F**K with our towel!

I agree. my beef with Ben is that I don't think he will ever reach his potential, which could be amazing. whereas I KNOW tebow will, even though he may never reach the level ben is at now.

The team showed they could win without VY last year...
This year? Not so much...
Johnson was running the ball with authority when they were 0-6...

Oh I agree. I never thought that collins was even a decent qb. but they can win without him. of course, I don't follow them so, I couldn't tell you if they even have a decent reciever. i know they're hurting if they signed washington to be a #1...
