A physical, they must be about to sign him.
Yay. More running between the tackles with a 240 pound plodder.
Yoi!
He ran a 4.46 at his pro day...hardly plodding...
If the o-line can stay healthy, they can help make 100 yard rushers out of Dwyer and Redman...imagine what they can do with Wells...
His pro day doesn't require pads and a helmet, right?
He's an injury prone gimp.
We need speed at RB. Not three guys who do the same thing.
I read from a Lolly blog that if they sign him that the team will pull the tender on one of the other backs regardless of whether they sign it or not.

so im assuming that weenie bells contract will be less than the tender?
It isn't speed that makes a great RB in the NFL. Vision, quick feet, balance, and unmeasureables. A guy who can catch & block. Give me a guy with all of that and thick thighs & runs behind his pads...I will show you a feature back that will play at a high level for 6-8 years.
As far as Wells, he has been banged up. If he is injured, I don't want him. If he comes cheap, he would be worth the risk. Still draft one too. The Steelers are an injury or a miss on a draft pick away from scrambling through the trash of FA during camp. You have to get another body in here with a NFL resume and a draft pick. Mendy, Dwyer, Redman, & Batch were "below the line" in 2012. Dwyer, Redman, & Batch are still what is here...You need bodies to challange.
I hope he fails. I would rather address the RB position in the draft. I'm starting to lose faith in the FO, what can they possibly see in him that is such an upgrade over the stop-gaps we have now.
Redman will be 29 during the season. I don't know if they would pull a tender but Redman has shown us all he is going to.
so im assuming that weenie bells contract will be less than the tender?
The reasons was that all three backs are one of the same.
The reasons was that all three backs are one of the same.
than why sign him?
Good question, maybe upside, to compete, lack of faith?
"The Cardinals were reportedly "not optimistic" about the condition of Wells' knees before releasing him. Steelers doctors may have found something they didn't like as well, as he left club headquarters without a contract. It's fair to wonder if Wells might need a knee surgery before he finds a landing spot."
Somebody's wrong somewhere, apparently based on his Twitter ID Beanie hasn't been to Pittsburgh yet.
SteelBlitz SteelersPittsburghabout 2 hours agoReport: Pittsburgh Steelers have RB Beanie Wells in for a PhysicalAccording to Dale Lolley, who covers the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Observer-Reporter of Washington, PA, the Steelers are meeting with running back Beanie Wells today. Wells was recently released by the Arizona Cardinals and they signed former-Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall yesterday to replace him.*
15 minutes ago at 3:36 PM ET Beanie tweeted he hasn't left for Pittsburgh yet.

Dont you know that all Crash cares about is speed?
Why else would he hate on Hines who helped bring us rings and LOVE Wallace who gave us jack squat.
But BOY is Wallace fast.
Crash, most Steeler fans want wins, not flashy ESPN highlight clips

Beanie Wells says he's driving from his Ohio home to Pittsburgh

Art doesn't want wins.
We had wins. We had conference titles. We had 2 more Lombardi's in the trophy case.
Wasn't good enough.
He wants Yinzer Ball.
Wins don't matter to him.
I don't like Hines Ward because he was a phony POS off the field.
Ed Bouchette @EdBouchette
Beanie Wells just visiting #steelers on Friday. Had physical
Wait a minute. So he was there, went back to Ohio, and now driving back again?
Says here he's going to visit with coaches because he passed his physical. But they couldn't put him up in a hotel for 2 days?
Haha, no kidding hey? Where did you see that he passed his physical, Crash?
If he had a physical, went back to Ohio, and now will go back to Pittsburgh? He had to pass.
Tomlin and Colbert are in WV for their pro day.
So says here he will meet with them tomorrow, and then they will decide to make an offer or not.
Fair enough, thanks. Cripes...nothing about Victor Butler at all..makes you wonder...is he even coming to visit or he left without a contract already or what?
Our dissapointing season has now boiled over to our off season. Stop signing 6 losers and sign 1 decent player. Aka S Jackson (now gone)
Be Wells is a fricken loser! Then we bring in another loser TE...every year we do this. (L Pope)
Yep.
Shoulda dumped Redman, kept Dwyer, never signed freaking DJ, and added Jackson.
Quality over quantity.
If Wells is healthy and is signed, I hope they draft one of these smaller pinball types with wheels at RB.

He is fast, big and powerful. He has elite vision, and a vicious stiff arm. People who are complaining obviously haven't seen this guy tote the rock.
i dont know why i feel this way,Beanie is very injury prone, but i have a feelin that if we sign him,hes goin to be something special!!! have to wait and see i guess!!!

This isn't the overrated Big 10. We'll see.
Slap here also said Doss was better than Troy coming out of college.
Obviously the Buckeye Fan Boy was right.
Last year was far from "Yinzer Ball."
Most passing attempts by the Steelers since Ben has been here.
Not exacty 3-yards and a cloud of dust.
Here is a fact Jack.
We have NEVER had missed a single playoff playing Yinzerball with Ben at QB.
During the era of Ben, EVERY SINGLE TIME we missed the playoffs the Steelers had 500 plus pass attempts.
Steelers pass attempts, reverse order- result
2004 fewest- Bens best win percentage
2005 next fewest SB win
2007 next fewest Playoffs Bens highest QB rating
2010 next fewest second SB
Seasons Steelers had OVER 500 attempts
2006 first missed playoff
2009 second missed playoff
2011 Only playoff team of the Ben era to have 500 attempts and make playoffs
2012 Most attempts missed playoffs

STFU stat geek.
Watch the games. Not the stat sheet.
We come out throwing, get a lead, then we run the ball.
The 2nd most 4th quarter/game winning drives given up on defense since 2007.
If Ben didn't save their asses on the games they won when they blew 4th quarter leads? They'd be ringless.

nice work.
Nice work my ass. He's reading stat sheets.
He doesn't pay attention to the games. It's more about WHEN, than how many.

That's not acceptable.

Anyone who thinks WELLS isn't a GOOD RB is clueless.
The only problem is he can't stay healthy...he couldn't in college and hasn't in the NFL.
If he could play 16 games I'd be all over him and so would 31 other teams.

for all the crap i give ya, crash, you know i agree with ya on most stuff... this is pretty spot on...
the "most passing attempts" is a sign that you're behind and HAVE TO throw... (it's also a sign that the offense wasn't a quick strike offense as it was in the past - a knock on Haley)
And if my Aunt had balls she'd be my Uncle.
I can't believe our GM can question the ability at running back, and then keeps 3 of the 4 he has left under contract.

Wells is overrated as hell. He is mostly likely a product of PEDs, which would explain both his size and speed, along with his vast amount of injuries his entire career. If they sign him, it will be a huge mistake. This would be a massive mistake. The front office are idiots if they do this. Just complete morons.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12525/beanie-wells
He was only able to play 8 games in 2012 and ran for a pathetic 2.7 ypc. That is beyond horrible.
He has NEVER lived up to his hype. I wouldn't even give this guy a phone call.
What happened to the once-shrewed Steelers? They are crapping their pants with wet turds at this point.

with that, i agree... and Shawn knows that's been MY beef... health, not ability... although, Shawn threw "fast" in there... 4.62 was his combine time... that's not "fast"... still a damn good player.
