[h=2]Steelers' Offensive Tackle Mike Adams Recovering From Stabbing Incident[/h]
Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams was injured and is hospitalized after being stabbed in an apparent robbery attempt early Saturday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side.
“We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. “We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery."
Adams was drafted in the second round (56[SUP]th[/SUP] overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft and was the winner of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, given to the outstanding Steelers rookie. He started six of the 10 games in which he played in 2012.

Brings back to mind what we warned about as far as letting Max go...one incident like this, and you could be looking at Mr. Whimper in the starting lineup.
I'm praying that Adams will make a full recovery, as they said he will, and that it will happen quickly.
He went into surgery to repair the wound and is expected to make a full recovery. He tweeted about it so he can't be all too bad.
Steelers' Mike Adams hospitalized after stabbing on Pittsburgh's South Side
By Ed Bouchette / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
June 1, 2013
Steelers tackle Mike Adams was stabbed in the stomach as he tried to stop three or four men from stealing his truck from his South Side home early today, his agent said this afternoon.
The second-year tackle, who was the team's rookie of the year in 2012, was recovering but remained hospitalized, the team said.
"He'll be OK," agent Eric Metz of Phoenix said. "He told me he was lucky. He'll be ready for training camp."
At 11:28 a.m., Mr. Adams posted this on his Twitter account: "I have an angel lookin' out for me! I'll be ok. Just gotta fight to get back harder than ever."
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert added in a news release: "We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning. We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery."
Pittsburgh police did not immediately respond to a request for more information. Mr. Metz said he was told that one of the robbers dropped a cell phone, which police had recovered.
Mr. Metz said the 6-foot-7, 323-pound right tackle had surgery at UPMC Mercy. He said he was told that the knife wound involved no vital organs.
With the Mercer County native at the hospital were his mother, Heidi Taylor, his grandmother, Mr. Colbert and Steelers security staff members, Mr. Metz said.
Mr. Adams was slated to start at right tackle this upcoming season. An ankle injury ended his season after he played in 10 games last year.
"He's worked too hard to let a few morons screw it up for him," Mr. Metz said.

First, as a person, I'm hoping he's fine. Hate to see robbery/stabbing happen to anybody.
Having said that, I agree with you. Whimper was a scary signing. Didn't get it... still don't.

True - robberies can happen in any big city in the world.
Hope he recovers quickly - there's a game on Nov 3 where it would good if both teams are at full strength.
Glad he's going to be okay.
Adams has proven once again that nothing good happens when you're out after 2 am. The stabbing incident took place at 3 am, and if Adams had half a brain he wouldn't have been out at that time of the morning.

They must not of taught reading at backwoods redneck high where you went. Musta slipped in Cooking Meth 101 and advanced courses in boning your sister. Otherwise you'd have known that the robbery occurred at his home.

OOOOR reporters need to figure the story out. I've read three different accounts. I just really wanted to use that!
Sounds like he got lucky. Had to be stabbed by someone that was high cause any normal person would be terrified by Adams' size.

Or maybe his size was so threatening that it raised their fear aggression.

Now that he is retired Ray Ray's got too much time on his hands.......Wouldnt surprise if this is the first of several mysterious Steeler stabbings. :)
So begins the saga of the Steelers 2013 OL......
Football Outsiders ranked the Steelers 2012 OL as the 6th worst in the league. Not a good way to keep a $100M QB healthy. The Steelers have little talented depth and just one injury will set the house of cards tumbling I'm afraid. That's why getting rid of the most reliable player on the OL the last two seasons made no sense to me whatsoever. The Steelers weren't forced to make a decision there, they chose it freely, banking on youth that has not at all been stable.
BTSC reports Adams out 6-8 weeks.... doesn't seem all that minor an injury to me....
(my youngest just had emergency appendectomy due to rupture and he was back playing baseball in 3 wks)
What is wrong with these assh****!!!
Out screwing around after 3am is a receipe for disaster!!
Why does it have to take a near-death experience for someone to
come to their senses??
Young and stupid, I guess..and, yes, I was there once too...
But I wasn't a starting OL in the NFL either.
Here's another positive sign of a persons character, that
we are counting on to protect BEN....
With the "Human Train Wreck" (Gilbert) on the Left, and "Stabbo" (Adams)
on the Right...we have ourselves a Bookend of Greatness on our O-Line...
Our coaching staff has a MAJOR job to do this year...
Guy Whimper is looking pretty good right now...atleast he hasn't screwed
up on or off the field...
JD
Missing Max Starks more and more already.
I think the Golic kid, Embernate and one of the other UDFA OL are going to eventually be real important to us this season. Nothing against them but that is not a good sign.
I hope that the three step drop becomes standard for us this season.
sounds like a drug deal gone bad

thought he was at home?
thought he was at home?
The initial report was that he was at home. Another said that he was sitting on his truck somewhere on the south side. ANOTHER had a mixture of the two.

You are a complete moron. Adams was out on the South Side at 3 am when he was attacked. If you hadn't been so busy boning your own sister you would have read that and not made the dumbest post of the year.
Latest from the Post Gazette is that 3 men attacked him with one sticking a gun in his face before one of the others stabbed him. Carjacking gone bad. Doesn't sound as if he was doing anything crazy or wrong. Can't fault a young guy with some coin for being out and about on a Saturday night.

Mike Adams had a gun pointed in his face during altercation
By Neal Coolong on Jun 2 2013

Reports indicate he was outside his truck without keys at 3 a.m. when three men - two armed, one with a gun and one with a knife - confronted him with the intention of stealing his truck. He was stabbed as a gun was pointed in his face.
Post-Gazette reporters Ed Bouchette, Jacob Quinn Sanders and Deborah M. Todd contributed to the growing story about the stabbing and robbery attempt of Steelers offensive linemen Mike Adams Saturday, and the latest news they've reported is confirmation the alleged assailants were armed with a knife and a gun.
They pointed the gun in Adams' face as he confronted the would-be car thieves at East Carson and 17th street - not outside his house as it had been previously reported.
Adams was outside his truck at 3 a.m., and did not have his keys - they were with the valet service of Nakama Japanese Steakhouse, the restaurant confirmed - when three men approached him. One had a gun, another had a knife. The man with the gun had it pointed at Adams' face as the one with the knife stabbed him.
The fact Adams didn't have his keys is interesting, considering his agent didn't appear to know that when he spoke with NFL.com reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala Saturday.
Adams was stabbed twice, once in the stomach and once in the forearm, before the assailants fled. Police found him at Cambod-Ican Kitchen, 1701 E. Carson Street in Pittsburgh, before he was taken to the hospital.
Fortunately for Adams, it didn't get worse, but the two questions that will come out of this in the long term are why he was outside his car without the keys in an area locals know isn't smart to be alone, and why he was there at 3 a.m.
It may not have been the smartest decision for Adams to make - only slightly more wise than his decision to allegedly chase after the three assailants after he was stabbed - but it isn't against the law to be stupid. Adams is lucky to be ok, that's the sure thing.

Now this sounds fishy. The restaurant closes for dinner at 11pm and the bar closes at 1am. So I don't imagine their valets wait around until 3 am.
So lets assume he was at some other bar til 2am. Still doesn't make sense why he'd go back for his car at 3am. WTF was he doing? And why was he at his truck without keys in the valet parking lot I assume? Doesn't make any sense.
He had to be doing something stupid. Will the Steelers have a 0 tolerance given that he already had a strike against him before the draft a la Rainey? Or are we so desparate at T that it doesn't matter?
The tendency to turn things around and fault the victim of a crime is amazing...
So he tweeted pics of himself....Is it true he had 33 staples to close the wound? Holy Crap!

Holy smokes!
The puzzle is not coming together. Seem that several pieces are missing. Some possible explanations are concerning.

Wait I'll tie it together. Valet wouldn't bring him his car because he'd been drinking. He left the place to go to another bar. Came back to get his vehicle but it was closed. He sat on his truck. Maybe waiting for a ride or for someone to magically appear from the steakhouse. The Valet will keep the keys of individuals who are too impaired to drive.
The tendency to turn things around and fault the victim of a crime is amazing...
I thought the same reading some of these posts. It has been insinuated that he was either scoring drugs or so drunk off his butt he couldn't drive. Of course with no evidence.
I do think walking the streets at 3am is pretty dumb but it is really a catch 22 for these guys. In retrospect the smart move is call a cab and get your car the next morning but from what we now know his car would had been stolen or vandalized. If anything the being alone part of this is what is bad judgement for that hour of the night.
Just think if Adams was "packing" and blew these guys away then what would this be about.

I don't know if he was too drunk to drive, but I don know that some valets will keep your keys if they think you've had too much to drink. He's a pretty big man, so he probably can hold his alcohol better than the average american. They may have just been playing it safe.
The tendency to turn things around and fault the victim of a crime is amazing...
Well considering what he was wearing.....what did he expect was gonna happen?

This is a logical conclusion, based upon reasonable assumptions.
But, he was not arrested for drunk driving. Nor was he arrested for public intoxication.
He was a victim of a violent crime.
Being drunk: Not a crime. Being out at 3 in the morning: Not a crime.
Being stabbed: Not a crime.
We have enough Steelers running afoul of the law without adding to the number artifically....

Clearly, he was asking for it...parading around every Sunday in those tight football pants...

Completely agree. I never said he did anything illegal OR stupid. Some people on here make it out like these guys need nannies. I don't fault Mike for this at all. Just implying it is ridiculous.

was thinking the same thing... at 22, i was out at 3am.... a lot. many of us were. As long as he was minding his business, that pretty much makes him the victim...
hey turd, read the article on page one and notice that it says HOME.
The only turd here is you. When I posted that nothing good happens after 2 am I'd read the stories on Yahoo and ESPN. You're the one who came back with the nasty insulting post that said Adams was stabbed at home, and you were 100% WRONG. In the future you should try having a better handle on the facts before being a total jerk. Of course, I guess being a Florida fan helps explain your stupidity.
