I'll take Justin Ellis, Ryan Carrethers, Beau Allen, or Zack Kerr anywhere from 3rd back before I take Nix @ #15. Go watch tape on Ryan Carrethers & Justin Ellis. You won't think there is 3 rounds seperating those from Nix when you are done wacthing it. So I see more value elsewhere. I'll help you guys out. Website below that gathers some game tape on prospects.
Don't spend your first rounder on someone like that. We did that at DE with Ziggy Hood, and you see how well that worked.
If you have a chance to draft a "monster NT," then do it, but I don't see anything from Nix that screams that he's that guy.
because Hood doesn't work out you don't draft Nix? That makes zero sense.
That's like saying never draft a WR in the 2nd because of Sweed.

Hood has only not worked out in the minds of some fans. I don't think the team or coaches would agree with that assessment and I think they will try to resign and keep him. Not sure how an every down defensive player who never comes off the field and plays both DE and Nose Tackle "didn't work out."

I thought Hood looked better when we flipped him over to the right. Same with Heyward going to the left. Heck it seems like a lot of guys on our OLine and D front 7 have been playing on the wrong side of the field the last couple years.

No, St LeBeau could never make the mistake of not putting a player in a position to maximize his potential;)

He was benched this year and only regained a starting role when Keisel got hurt. A first round pick who, in his fifth year, only starts because of injury, is a disappointment.

You really are confused. The reason you don't draft Nix in the first round is not because he's a NT, it's because he's not an impact player. If there was another Ngata in the draft, I'd be OK with spending a first-rounder on him. But there is no player of that caliber who will be available at #15. You can get someone nearly as good as Nix two or three rounds later.

Yes to this. #15 is pretty high for us. You want a player who can get the ball in his hands and make a game changing play on offense or take the ball away on defense, not "occupy blockers"

I think an NT like Nix is an impact player in our D. He wont get the sacks or the tackles but the rushing D will improve dramatically and we will make teams one dimensional. That is instant impact.
Do you think a LB or DB is going to have an instant impact in this D? ....you are the confused on my friend. Sure, if we go O in the first we may get an impact player but offense isnt the problem. Nix starts day 1. Instant upgrade, instant impact. A legit NT makes everyone elses job easier.

Justin Ellis will do all the things you mentioned and he should be avilabe in 4th-5th Rd.
