They did the same with LB Marcus Allen.

I like the move on Spillane. Just a guy I like having on the roster.

May God help us if he is the starting ILB.

Spillane signing is good...

M Allen signing is not so good...

I think Allen can do more for us than Spillane.

I agree and am interested in what Flores can do to help both reach their potential.

Even Spillane is good at some things and should do really well if used properly. Where we’d run into problems was allowing him to end up in 1 on 1 coverage with the other team’s #1 WR.

We wouldn’t put anyone else in that spot. Not another LB. Not a S. It always seemed like it was Spillane’s guy.

They are both RFA tenders, right?

I don't think those are guaranteed. Just an option to bring them to camp cheap.

These are no brainer decisions.

Yes, and Spillane's offer was the lowest FA offer they could give. Gives the Steelers the right of first refusal. He gets an offer from another team and they have 5 days to decide to match or let him walk. $2.4 M for a solid back-up who knows the system makes sense. As you said, no brainer.
