We'd move him to C.

Didn't he play there at the Sr Bowl?

Read that Roger Saffold is likely to be cut by the Titans. He's 33 though

Also said the Titan's may be releasing their starting Center...Ben Jones who is 32

I'd be fine with this pick as long as we get a FA center. Johnson-FA-Dotson would be a huge improvement on the OL.

Johnson is who I think I want us to draft at this point...but lots can change.

If we pick up a guard in UFA (which I think is a real possibility for our big add), then I think we won't go G in the 1st.

And I don't think we'll draft him to play C. I think we bring back Green and a fairly cheap UFA - hopefully better than Haus. Then let them compete. Loser is interior OL swing guy.

Ordinarily, i'm critical of measurements as the proof that a guy is good... HOWEVER, this guy's play on the field is equally impressive... I'd have zero complaints

Given the option between filling tackle in FA and drafting guard in the first or the opposite, I would prefer to draft a top tackle.

one of the struggles there is Dan Moore didn't do very well at RT. First round tackles usually have the LT skillset.

I bring this up because you can usually find RT talent in the 2nd round - a guy who is a mauler of a blocker but doen't have the quick feet / agility of an LT. You could arguably go G first, T second and be very comfortable with the selection.

If a guy we think can be a long time starter at T is available, I agree.

We need one of those too.

It's really hard to evaluate what we might pick without seeing UFA. We just seem to have so many more needs than normal.

sign a free agent OL

probably not before we have all our D starters and a few back ups set first

just like last year :o

Since 1970, the Steelers have selected just six offensive linemen in Round 1 (half were busts) ...just sayin'

I think they prefer other positions with less depth than OL

Yes, but one can always hope.

Yep, we certainly prioritized defense over OL last season. Just look at the draft :p

UFA signings last season.

Juju
Sutton
Finney
Banner
Wormley
Haeg
Killebrew
Marsh
Alualu
Schobert (by trade reluctantly after Spillane looks terrible in the preseason)

It's n ot like it's super defense heavy.

Juju and Sutton are probably the "big" signings from last year. Along with the emergency Schobert acquisition. Too bad we couldn't have used the 6th round pick to grab a cornerstone starting T :p

and Colbert has never drafted an OT in Round 1.

I think at least part of this is that we seem to like to taking the #1 or #2 guy at their position with our 1st round pick (although we don't bat 1.000 at this).

And it's hard to do that with premier positions like OT.

I think that this is also a big reason why we tend not to be great at drafting CBs.

you're Gm of the steelers last year.

some OL is hurt in camp/preseason

with moore and green , rookie draft picks in the 3rd and 4th round now slated to start in front of a near 40 immobile QB coming into jis proble last year

do you look to sign a jason peters (bears for 1.5M)

or instead go sign a back up OLB, trade for a back up CB?

i leave shobert off since he actually started

If i was GM, i would have drafted a C in round 2.

Didn't we bring in Turner in the same way we brought in the guys you're taking about? Can't remember the timing exactly.

I would have liked to have seen OL be more of a focus. But I think getting skill guys is something we did for Ben (Juju, Najee, PF). Wonder if that was part of the play cut conversation.

The good news is that it looks like 2 of those decisions seem to have landed us guys that will be important for the rebuild too.

turner was signed after DD notified us he's retiring. in late june before camp started.

schobert, ingram, spoon were all acquired in august with the season opener looming as our OL depth chart had green and moore starting
