I've had Directv for the last 10-12 years mainly for the Sunday Ticket. Never had any major complaints. Service, when needed, was never a problem. Last December right before Christmas, my Directv went out. Called for service and made an appointment. Long story short, 4 missed service calls later (which required me to miss work 4 times), I cancelled. I've read that after AT&T took over, their customer service went to hell.

Now I'm faced with the quickly approaching NFL season and I'm not sure what to do. I was hoping I could get Directv as strictly a streaming service for Sunday Ticket, but I'm pretty sure that's not an option. I'm not opposed to signing back up, again strictly for Sunday ticket. I would imagine they would treat a "new" customer better than an existing one.

Trying to figure out if its worth the cost though. We have 5 national games and I'll get the Jets game locally. That's 6. Going to at least 2 games - at least one is not national - so that's 7. And let's assume one of the 4:25 games goes national, so that's 8. So I'd be paying for Directv for approximately 8 games as opposed to hitting a sports bar, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc. Also have to consider the issue with CBS & Directv and if that will be resolved. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

My sister just cancelled because AT&T is butt juice.

So now I’m negotiating with my brother to see if we can split the cost but since he is a Dallas fan it also depends on the number of prime time games. He may not get it this year.

I would get it myself but we have too many trees to get a good signal based on the angle of the dish.

Not sure what to do besides going back to janky websites. Reddit has been pretty good at finding the games tho.

Hopefully once their co tract runs out with the NFL we can stream directly without having to sign up to one provider.

Yeah my dish had to be mounted on a pole in my front yard because of trees. The CBS thing is what is keeping me from pulling the trigger and just signing up again. Even with Sunday Ticket, any games on CBS will be blacked out on Directv.

I had issues last year. I used to be able to use my phone and plug it into an HDMI to view on the TV. It stopped working last year. I could only watch on my phone.

I have Verizon so I also get to watch more games on my phone using the NFL app but it won’t let me watch on the TV.

My computer screen is 27” so I get a decent screen when I have to use a computer.

Still cheaper than a sports bar.

When it went out last December I was able to stream onto my laptop and then plug into my TV. Not terrible. And I was hoping to do the same this year if they would sell me just the streaming service. Was also nice to be able to watch on our phones if we couldn't be home at game time.

Back to your other comment - YES, it would be nice to be able to stream the games regardless of provider. I also would like to see them offer single games on demand. Like I mentioned earlier, we get a lot of national games. It would be great to be able to purchase the remaining games individually without signing up for the whole season.

Why can’t we subscribe to just Steeler games? That seems the most logical but of course they make us buy all the games.

The money could still be split up evenly by the NFL.

Dudes.... quit paying for their bull ****. Get yourself a laptop with an HDMI port and just connect it to your tv. Then go to
https://www.reddit.com/r/nflstreams/ and find yourself a stream. 720p and Bilasports are the two feeds I always use and have had great success for years. Quality streams for free. The delay is maybe 1 minute from live. Been watching all my Pittsburgh sports this way for years.

Here are the subreddits for NHL and MLB too

https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLStreams/

https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBStreams/

also, this site will show the tv coverage map for each game so you can see if it will be local to you or not. The map comes out on Wednesday’s for that weeks set of games for NFL.

Thanks! Last time I tried streaming a game was a few years ago. It was a preseason game and the quality was crap. Plus I was worried about viruses and the legality of what I was doing. But if you've had success with reddit, I'll take your word for it.

I guess you missed where I said reddit is an option.

My issue with streams like this is the lagging.

They have improved from a few years but the Ticket was awesome when I had access to it.

Yeah I’ve probably been streaming games since around 2010 and it has come a long way since. Although, the discovery of reddit made my search for a good stream waaayyy easier. I live in Arizona and do not want satellite so this is the best way to go for me. If anyone ever needs help I will try and offer insight. Been doing it so long I don’t even have to think of what I’m doing. I forget sometimes that others haven’t been doing it and may be intimidated.

Thanks again. Have gotten so spoiled by Sunday Ticket I can't even imagine not watching the Steelers every week. I remember as a kid the only time I'd get to see them was if they were playing on Monday Night Football, playing the Jets or Giants, and during the playoffs. What a nightmare that was, lol.

Haha that’s why I stream everything. I did have Sunday ticket for a year when I lived in Massachusetts but that was only because it was free when I signed up.

I used to go to bars to watch but now I’d much rather watch at home
with friends and family over. Plus having a 3 year old makes the bar scene difficult lol.

With a 2 and a 4 year old streaming or the ticket is still cheaper and better than going to a bar.

I will admit I’m not as invested as before because I don’t want to miss out on my kids. I love football but they come before everything.

So Armpit Jr. was born in Nov. of 2005. He was only a few months old when we won #5. So I've always given him the credit for ending the drought.

While I do fondly remember him saying "Dadda" & "Momma" for the first time - one of my favorite memories is of this little angelic kid pronouncing "Roethlisberger" and "Polamalu" better than most people could at the time.

I'd agree with Oh Wow and AZ on the reddit option. I found it last season and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the streams. I had a few lock up but would try another and always found a good one.

My little guy plays fall baseball - all games on Sunday's through the end of October so I miss some afternoon games but it's worht it. Have to laugh, it drives my Atlanta wife crazy when someone asks my son who his favorite football team is and he says Steelers instead of Falcons (Sadly I couldn't punish him and make him be a Pirates fan so he is a Braves kid. Sigh...)

i'm not too tech savvy, but with these "smart Tvs" being popular, do you even need a laptop to get a stream or can you do it right from the TV?

personally I've been lucky the last couple years. I've chipped in $40 for the season to stream NFL sunday ticket. key is to find a college student living in a dorm or similar setting. they have deals for those subscribers and i believe allow them to register a few different emails to the account.
you're allowed to stream 1 game at a time.
I did have trouble on 1 or 2 games where the main subscriber had to give me a new screen name and password on a couple of the games

but if those fail, I don't have a problem about going to the sports bar/sportsbook but I prefer to hear the audio of the game so I watching it at home is a better option

I have been paying for this option for about 3 years:

The NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV TO GO package lets you stream live, out-of-market NFL regular season games every Sunday afternoon on your computer, tablet, smartphone, or connected streaming device (PS4, XBOX, ect). People can watch over seas with VPN.

I costs almost 300 per for the season. There are eligibility requirements. It appears they use people's address for eligibility.

I mentioned a lap top because generally it will be formatted better since it’s an actual computer and will most likely be easier to get the stream going.

Most of these streams will have 1 pop up ad when you click play. So with a computer it’s much easier to just close the add then full screen the video feed. Rather then mess with a TVs version of an internet browser.

I just put in my address and I’m eligible. I signed up immediately. I guess since they tried years ago and couldn’t get a signal due to our tree canopy they put us on the list.

I’m hype. Hopefully I can use my fire stick and my sister can use her computer so I can repay her for using her subscription these last few years.

Reddit was an option but I like the convenience and reliable HD feed.

I guess folks could use antennas. I don’t have cable and use over air and honestly. The HD on antenna is better than satellite.

It is when you live relatively close to the broadcast towers and can get a good signal. I live relatively close but my house is near big/tall trees and when the trees are full and wind blows, the over-the-air broadcast signal gets dicey.

Maybe CBS has its own streaming app to get it that way.

I canceled Directv June 2018 and started streaming with Directv Now at half the cost. Good service, but I'm about to dump it and try Sling since they raised the price $15 in just over a year. Anyway, I'm not sure if they offer any Sunday Ticket options with Directv Now, but if they do you might want to check it out. The streaming quality is just as good as the dish and better yet, doesn't go out when it rains.

I'm almost 60 miles away from the KDKA tower and receive a perfect HD signal. Since I dumped Directv and went with their streaming service I bought a Tivo and use it to record my locals. And like Ghost, my kids usually have sporting events on Sundays so I'm always the guy avoiding all humans and social media until I can get home to watch.

Normally it is us Canadians that get ripped off on everything but your guys are getting gouged for the NFL Sunday Ticket. I have the DAZN App here which is only $120 Canadian for the year and the NFL Sunday Ticket is included in the price as are NFL Redzone, NFL Network, MLB Network and a bunch of other stuff that I don't watch. Just a thought I have this on the Roku and I have used it in the past to subscribe to Hulu and American Netflix. I actually had to setup my Roku as an American account, use a trick to make my credit card appear as an American one and setup my router to appear as if my address was in the USA. It worked flawlessly. Maybe you guys can figure out how to do this in the USA so that you're only paying about $95 American per year instead of the ridiculous high price you're paying now.

Directv has exclusive rights on Sunday Ticket. I have Fios now and knew going in that I'd have to go back to Directv if I wanted the Ticket. But like I said, they were no-shows on 4 service calls in a row so I cancelled. Was hoping they'd let me have the Directv Now just for Ticket but haven't called yet. Maybe if they REALLy want me back as a customer they'll bend their rules??

And Az, thank you for all your help and guidance. I was thinking the PS4 would be less risky to use vs. a computer in regards to malware, viruses, etc. But I can grab an older laptop from work that no one uses anymore to use exclusively for streaming. Week 1 is a national game vs. Pats. I'll try to stream other games earlier in the day and see how it goes. If there's no issues, I'm golden. If there are, I'll call Directv and see what they can offer me.

with Steelers games usually more then half the games are broadcasted over the air and the others I can stream from internet or goto steeler bar few times a year...

I’m the exact opposite. We haven’t had cable in 8 years. I’ve streamed games since forever. I can finally get the ticket without cable? I’m all over it.

I would look into Hulu plus but with Kodi and a family members cable password and Netflix we are good to go. We pay $14 for Netflix ad that’s it.

Not sure it if would help with the popups at these places, but I just put a Raspberry Pi "pi-hole" ad blocker up at our place.

Blocks adds by acting as a DNS server.

Not that expensive and pretty easy to set up (although it did fail for me the first time for some reason).

All in all, it cost me less then $60 and probably took an hour and a half or so (because I had to do it twice).

Same. Had Directv for over 15 years and never had a major problem. I heard a lot of complaints with AT&T. Last January my Directv went out. Called them to make an appt. They blew me off for 4 straight appts. After the last one I cancelled and got Fios.

I had DirecTV from 1997 until 2018. Loved the service in the beginning. But over the past few years, the equipment became old and outdated and slow. And the price kept going UP. I canceled and I've been streaming everything I need for far less money. Signed up with Playstation VUE first. Loved the service until they increased their price. So, I'm with Sling now. No complaints other than it's more difficult to tune directly to a station that I want. These streaming services don't have channels numbers that you can memorize like I used to with DirecTV. However, PlayStation VUE was Amazon Alexa-enabled, so I could voice tune directly to any channel. With Sling, I have to hunt through the guide for channels.

Over the weekend, I signed up for a free week of NFL Sunday Ticket streaming. It worked well on my iPad. But on my 70" Smart TV, the stream paused and buffered multiple times throughout the game. That was very annoying (and I have 100 mbps internet service from Verzion fios, with my wifi router directly under the TV). I just canceled Sunday Ticket and will try one of the streaming options mentioned in this thread for this coming weekend.

Let me know how this works out. I also have had DirecTV since ‘98 but have been thinking of cancelling. Especially if they drop ESPN from the latest contract dispute.

Will do.

Also, if your bill with DirecTV is high (like over $100/month), call them. They will negotiate. These Streaming services are all in the neighborhood of $50/month for quite a few channels. I think Sling's lowest tier package is less than $30/month. My father still has DirecTV and I hesitate to switch him to streaming because it's a little more confusing to use and he's been used to DirecTV for years. So, I called DirecTV on his behalf and complained that the service was almost $80/month higher than a comparable streaming service. They immediately lowered his bill by $80/month for 12 months. I'll keep calling them every year doing this. As long as the price stays reasonable, it's still a decent service for my parents.

Yeah, I’ve called and got $50 off a month for a year. I constantly call and they keep giving me discounts with fear of losing more business. I’m praying ATT sells. I miss the old customer friendly DirecTV.

I want to try streaming this weekend, using a link from reddit. Can I do anything to prepare TODAY for this, or are links only posted the day of the games?
