Forget the offseason AB and Bell garbage. Shazier is incredible. (Help with making this a clickable link would be appreciated)

All the drama crap aside...

This is why this is such a great organization. They signed to a contract pretty much knowing he will never play another down again in the NFL. They did it because they are a class group of people...giving him the goal the desire to prove my second sentence completely wrong.

This is why I love the Steelers and will always be a Steeler fan.

People mention Ernie Holmes and the shooting incident...they never include how the Rooneys gave support to him in his time of need.

Well said. I don’t know many, if any, that would support Shazier as much as the Rooneys have. His recovery is amazing to watch.

So happy for him. I think he’ll be able to play with his kids now and do the things you want to normally do.

But certain players don't believe the Steelers would honor their contract if injured. They want the big guaranteed $$.
( and to be honest given AB's behavior over the years, I don't think I would fault the Steelers for it if they didnt).

Oh wow

Ehh, Shaziers injury shouldn’t be used as proof for how we honor contracts.

That was a life altering injury.

Glad we are doing the right thing but let’s not act like we won’t ever release an injured player.

Ryan Shazier: I still want to make the Hall of Fame

Posted by Josh Alper on June 27, 2019, 6:50 PM EDT

Ryan Shazier will spend a second season on the Steelers’ physically unable to perform list as a result of the spinal cord injury he suffered during a 2017 game, but he hasn’t wavered from his goal of returning to the football field.

Shazier has made great progress in his recovery, including walking, jumping and dancing with his wife at their wedding. At a football camp held at his former high school by his high school teammate and personal trainer, Shazier confirmed he wants those steps to continue until he’s playing again.

“I still want to make the Hall of Fame, still want to be the best linebacker in the NFL, “Shazier said, via David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I’m not giving up on my goals, and the doctors said don’t give up on my goals, so there’s no problem with me doing that. I’m just going to keep working, and hopefully I’m going to be back as soon as I can.”

Shazier demonstrated an exercise to strengthen the back for the football campers, which is one of many things that it was unclear he’d be able to do again when he first went down. He said progress like that has left him thankful for “every day that I take another step, take another breath” whether or not he reaches those goals.

Selfishly dreaming of Shazier and Bush playing together in the middle someday. WOW!!! :tt2

Realistically, I have to believe he'll never play again. But I think its awesome if that goal is one of the factors fueling his recovery. I hope he remains with the organization for a long time - even if just as a coach/consultant.

With all of his accomplishments as of late, you can’t help but think about the possibilities of him returning to the field. If he does, I can see it would take our organization to another level. My eyes well up at the thought of him making it all the way back. What a journey if he does. His story makes all these other idiots bitching , moaning and complaining look like absolutely nothing.

THIS is all I want for the guy.
I do not for one minute want him to get back on a football field.
Agree with all saying it is a class act by the org on not cutting him so he can get paid. Bravo Rooneys!!!!

My advice to Shazier, Dude you can walk.....you can even run

So....Go on now-

Yeah Cap;it would be best of him to just ride off into the sunset with his family and health intact.

I personally don't believe Shazier will ever play again, but if his dreams of doing so allow him to continue his improvement on the road to recovery then I think that's great.

Devin Bush: Ryan Shazier’s “like my big brother”

Posted by Josh Alper on July 2, 2019, 10:37 AM EDT

Ryan Shazier‘s goal is still a return to playing in the NFL, but the linebacker’s current role around the Steelers is limited to continuing his rehab and serving as an advisor to other members of the team.

One of the players who is benefitting from Shazier’s mentorship is the guy drafted in hopes of filling much of the hole Shazier left behind on the defense. The Steelers traded up with the Broncos to take Devin Bush in the first round this year and Bush said recently that Shazier has been in his ear throughout his first months with the team.

“We stay in communication on a daily basis,” Bush said during an appearance on WSVN. “That’s like my big brother, honestly. He’s just showing me the ropes, the ins and outs of the NFL and how to be a man.”

The lessons seem to be going well for the rookie. Early reviews of Bush’s work in Pittsburgh have been positive and he’s set to be in a major role when the season gets underway in September.
