Butler Says Eifert Will Be A Challenge to Cover Sunday

....considering he's been on IR since Sept. 30th, yeah he'll be a real challenge. Maybe we can send Vince Williams (Butler's best cover LB :rolleyes:) over to Eifert's living room Sunday and sit on his couch and make sure an errant TD pass doesn't fall into his lap. Btw, if it did, I'm sure Mike Tomlin would lose that challenge too.

I can't quote the article without upsetting a certain website that shall not be named, but I found it interesting. One could argue that the statement was a Freudian slip (as the article points out), however to me, this is emblematic of the defense's (if not the team's) lack of situational awareness. Has the defense been prepping to cover Tyler Eiffert all week? ....or are they even game planning at all? Is it more just base vanilla zone coverage with a splash blitz or two thrown in? I don't know, but one could argue why there are so many head scratching calls in games lately (i.e. LB's covering WR's for an entire game). Butler waited a long time for his opportunity, and I think he has thoroughly blown it.

Since you said it.. I guess I'd reply with a mere request for you to look up his career stats. He hovered around 100 tackles or more for 5 years at GB.

Butler knew specific plays, down and distance, that Driskel ran last week. He knew Tyler Boyd has a knee injury. A journalist asked a dumb question but Butler should have easily responded that Eifert has been out most of the season. Its not too much to ask and is just another reason to question your faith in Butler and what he’s doing and how he is preparing the team.

What will most likely be attempted by Tomlin is the firing Butler; same thing he’s been doing for the last six years to try and keep the wolves off of him. Remember, after the Jags playoff loss when everyone was going after Butler, Tomlin said that Butler was running the defense exactly the way that he wanted. That’s what Tomlin said. Now watch him fire that same guy for doing what Tomlin wanted.
