It is a little silly to do this because we could add a player or two, but with cap space at a premium, I think the Steelers might go through OTAs and minicamp before making any further personnel moves. Who knows?

Offense (25)
QB - Roethlisberger, Rudolph, Dobbs - I think Dobbs takes a step this year and both he and Rudolph show a decent command of the offense during the preseason.
RB - Bell, Conner, Samuels, Nix (FB)
WR - Brown, Smith-Schuster, Washington, Heyward-Bey, Hunter, Rogers - I think Rogers comes back...
TE - McDonald, James, Grimble
OL - Gilbert, DeCastro, Pouncey, Foster, Villanueva, Okorafor, Hawkins, Feiler, Finney

Defense (25)
DL - Heyward, Hargrave, Tuitt, Alualu, Walton, Frazier - Frazier pushes McCullers off the roster
OLB - Watt, Dupree, Chickillo, Adams, Adeniyi - Ola surprises and makes the roster
ILB - Bostic, Williams, Matakevitch, Thomas - Matthew Thomas gets his $#!+ together and pushes LJ Fort off the roster
S - Burnett, Davis, Edmunds, Berhe, Allen - Allen proves his worth over Malik Golden

Specialists (3)
K - Boswell
P - Berry
LS - Canaday

I think we might be a little bit susceptible to the pass if we don't keep any cornerbacks at all...;)

Good point!

CB - Haden, Burns, Hilton, Sutton, B. Allen - Buh-bye Sensabaugh!

I don't know how I cut that off...

That looks pretty good to me. The only changes I'd make:

- Jones over Dobbs. Landry is a vet that knows the system. He's still leaps and bounds ahead of Dobbs at this point. If Ben gets hurt in week 2, the Steelers don't want to rely on a third round rookie.

- I think Rogers starts the year on the PUP list and is replaced by Ridley. Given that Bell will most likely be rusty again, the Steelers open the season heavy at RB. If the Steelers go with a WR instead, its probably Tucker.

With getting rid of Bryant and Wilcox the Steelers now have $5.9 M in cap space. I'm guessing they'll be closely watching the cut lists for an additional LB to bring in prior to the start of the season.

And I also don't think Dobbs makes it over Landry. I believe they want to have a guy they know can come in and give them a chance. They don't know that with Dobbs or Rudolph.

You forgot Lawrence Timmons.

My only thought about QB is this;

If Rudolph can’t learn quickly enough to overtake the #2 job from Landry Jones, I’m not sure he could be considered a franchise QB...

If he can, then Landry is expendable...he makes too much for a #3 QB...

Never thought I'd never say this but Rogers value with Bryant gone is something we could use. Lets hope he heals in time.

Supposedly he's right on schedule per Tomlin. Tomlin said they assume they'll be resigning him.

What sorta cap savings would cutting Jones create?

You're right. That was a glaring thing to me. If Brown ever went down, I could easily see a MB/Juju starting lineup still thrive. If Brown goes down this year, it would be Juju and the rookie starting.

We need McDonald to prove dependable, which will lessen any effect here.

We got plenty of "in the box" safeties. Who needs cornerbacks?

Agreed. I think the determining factor is how Rudolph looks in preseason.

The last time a seasonrd veteran QB went down at the start of the season.......he was replaced by a FOURTH round rookie.
That rookie never gave up that job which is why Tony Romo is in the booth not on the field.

I'm pretty much on the same wavelength as Slappy in terms of his very early 53 man roster, except for maybe at wideout..

I think the two undrafted linebackers, ILB Matthew Thomas and OLB Ola Adeniyi have a great shot at making the back end of this roster if they can show off some special teams prowess at Latrobe and during the preseason games.

One other UDFA that has a real shot is Pitt WR/RB/KR/PR Quadree Henderson, who could fill a nice Swiss Army utility role just like fellow rookie RB/FB/TE/H-back Jaylen Samuels. Aside from Antonio Brown, who we'd rather not use as a returner at this stage of his career, we haven't had a legit return man since the Stefan Logan days.

Right now, behind our WR roster locks and projected starters in a 3-wide set (AB, JJSS, and JW), I'd pencil in Q. Henderson as our WR6, RB4, and primary KR/PR and let Darrius Heyward-Bey and Justin Hunter battle it out as our primary backup outside receiver, and I'd let Eli Rogers (if we re-sign him) and Marcus Tucker battle it out as our primary backup inside slot receiver.

I had forgotten that the Steelers signed Quadree Henderson...if he can become the primary return man, then I can definitely see the above scenario...

Hell, if he can be the gunner on the punt team, he could make Hey-Bey obsolete...

If the team determines that neither Rudolph nor Dobbs is trustworthy enough this early in their careers to be counted on to be Ben's primary gameday backup, they could decide to keep Landry Jones on the roster to be the QB for one more season in 2018 (which is the last year of his current contract with a cap hit of $1.9M). If this is the case, they could try to stash Josh Dobbs on the practice squad this year with the hopes of bringing him back up to the 53 man roster in 2019 when Landry moves on.

Steelers S Sean Davis is anticipating moving to free safety.

Davis played 742 snaps as a rookie last season, primarily at strong safety. He's recovering from shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for camp. Although he'll move positions in the Steelers' secondary, Davis will again be an every-down player this upcoming season.
