So.. how are we supposed to sign the honey badger?

Restructure/extend Ben

BUT

if the team is set on a free agent LB, I don't know that they can phenagle enough cap space to do that AND sign Mathieu

He's gonna want somewhere north of $10M per.

I'm doubtful that he becomes a Steeler.

Rara

I'm pretty sure they're at $7.7 million.

Buzz i'll answer that guy you quoted, because i did some research...
Haden extension
Heyward restructure
Cut any or all>> Sensabaugh, Wilcox, McDonald

Mattheiu scares me because of the injury history and the high salary he'll want and probably get from some team.
I wonder if we should/could get a guy like Cromartie to play some safety on a show me deal?
Great character guy and even though he's 31 he still seems productive.

Those OTC numbers don’t include Villanueva’s restructuring...his cap hit this year is now just over $4 million...Rara’s $7.7 million is about right...

I wonder how much cap savings there would be if we did cut them and and J.J to conversation....

They can create if they want both. Of course honey badger cap number this year would have to be worked in the 7 mil range. Trade for Kendrick's too. He has a 5.85 cap hit via trade. Get him hear extend & you can lower that.

They have the means if they want. There are some Big #s that may not be here next year for various reasons..around 20 mil. BB has monies to be pushed out too with extension. He will leave dead money when gone but that's the plan..win now. Khan da Man...Believe.

Steelers sit at $6.512 million in cap space as of today, per NFLPA records, the third-lowest total in the league behind the Cowboys and Chiefs. That number likely accounts for Alejandro Villanueva's contract restructure and Martavis Bryant's salary increase from $705,000 to $1.9 million, a proven performance escalator.

Not sure either but he is a ballhawk.
Being from NY i recall listening to him talk to Boomer on radio and he was a stand up guy.

Concerning the cap, have Hayward and Haden restructure contract, sign Bell

We have something like 12 million tied up in Bryant, V. Mcdonald, JJ, Sensabuagh, and Wilcox for next year. ( 4 of these players are back ups, and one is always injured.)

Add in 6.5 million in cap space, that is something less than 19 million.

Why don't they trade Bryant now for a pick or player. (Bryant was awesome for us, before his issues, but we are going to lose him next year, so start with the new earlier)

Use that money, sign Honeybadger.

Make that trade for Kendricks ( extend and restructure his contract)

Go into draft like kings, BPA

Odd, I have not seen that anywhere, but the point is how much is saved in cap, and what do they have in store ...?

I haven't seen the exact breakdown of the Burnett contract yet outside of the basic 3 year, $14.5M structure (don't know how big the signing bonus is, what is 2018 cap number will be, etc.).

However, it appears that Bostic's 2 year, $4M deal includes a $1.4M signing bonus. If they structure the contract with a minimal first year base salary of $800K, that means he'd have a 2018 cap hit of $1.5M. That would leave a base salary of $1.8M in 2019, with a cap hit of $2.5M in the second year of the deal.

Gonna have to do something soon to get more cap space. Gotta make room for the rookie class.

Each of these moves has a minimal effect. The top 51 are counted for cap purposes. The 5 players knocked off the top 51 were each at the min $480K. Even with a $90K SB that gets those cap hits up to $880K. The biggest increase in the cap for any of these deals is $400K.
