Hi All,

I live in NC and have never been to Pittsburgh...or a game there..Been to several steeler games in other states over the years... even going back to 1983 in Baltimore.
Been a fan since 1976....Any ideas or suggestions on getting decent tickets for the game Sunday Jan 14th....
Also, where would you recommend to stay near the stadium...

Thanks!

I guess it all depends on your budget. There are quite a few new hotels on the north side, many within walking distance to Heinz. I guarantee the rooms however just got way more expensive. Might be worth considering staying further away from the stadium and taking an Uber. If you want to walk, there is a Residence Inn and a Springhill Suites right across from PNC Park however.

As for tickets - stubhub is likely the way to go if you want secure guaranteed seats. If you're a gambler I suppose you could scalp - but I'm thinking unless you're prepared to miss the 1st quarter that will be really pricey. Of course no matter where you sit it will be expensive. I would think several hundred per ticket. I have pretty good seats and those face for playoffs are $400 each. I think you can probably get in the top of the stadium for around 150-175 per seat right now, not sure about later in the week.

good luck! Mrs. Starlifter and I will be there. Go Steelers!!!

The cheapest seats available right now on NFL Ticket Exchange are going for $111 a piece (plus all of their fees and such).

If you decide to stay outside walking distance, I'd recommend signing up for a players card at the local casino so you can get passes to park there during any games for free. And you just have to walk across the street to the stadium. It might even be closer than the main lot and it's really easy to get in and out from that spot.

I've made the habit of parking there for any sporting event (Steelers, Pirates, or even Pens games and taking the subway). Plus I win some money before or after the game every time. It must be dumb luck, but it's like clockwork and usually ends up paying for the tickets. Plus you can have a few drinks inside before the game to warm up before tailgaiting with all the other nuts.

Personally, I'd take a chance and just show up and buy some last minute tix. My gf and I have the strangest luck. We make friends most places we go and a lot of times people have just given us tix to so many events for free. Although I would never bank on it, especially for a playoff game. But talk to enough people and it never ceases to amaze me how many cool people there are, especially in Pittsburgh.

Worst case, you'll be able to find cheap tix right around kickoff if you're patient enough. But if it's your first time, I'd plan ahead, get to the stadium parking lot at 6 am, dress the part of the craziest fan there, make lots of friends, and get into Heinz the second the place opens to explore the greatest stadium in all of sports. Good luck.

Usually I have good luck with priceline or hotwire, though I'm sure this weekend the prices won't be as low. If you try booking something downtown with priceline or hotwire 3 stars or above you're going to get a good hotel. I don't think there's any pay by the hour type of motels in the Golden Triangle. And if you stay downtown, check out the parking garages on the Pittsburgh parking authorities website. There's probably something within a few blocks of your hotel and I'm almost positive they only charge $5 a day on weekends.

I think it was 2009, we had a nice gathering before the Chargers playoff game. Unfortunately, most of those fellows don't post here anymore.:(

I remember when my son and I tailgated with you guys, what a fabulous day that was! It was the Browns game where Ben came back after his 4-game suspension, and Deebo pretty much liquidated 2 or 3 WRs. Ruth was there, he kind of showed us around a bit, we got to meet Wolfley, and maybe Tunch also. I think SteelerNation 1 (?) was there ... can't remember the details, but the trip was like a dream! Thanks for helping make that happen guys!

Good times indeed. The SN1 lot was the place to be. Normally if I get a chance to go to a game I'll stop by, say hello, and talk about all the crazy people who still post here.:D

Hi - I used to live in Pgh a long time ago, so some of this might be outdated, but for a first time visitor to Pgh, I'd recommend a trip to Primanti Brothers (on an empty stomach, and 2 AM might be the best time)!

http://www.primantibros.com/ , original location in the Strip District

If you are coming with kids, the Science Museum on Forbes is pretty cool (and there's a section of the old Forbes Field right there to see as well!).

That's at least a start, others can add/amend.

Have fun, I wish I was going too!

Also, now try to get a ticket for the Pens-Rangers game on Sunday that was moved from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night to accommodate the Steelers playoff game. I'm debating whether or not to do this myself as well. With my 5.5 hour drive each way, I could probably pull it off leaving the house around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning hitting both games that day and arriving back home around 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. Having Monday off due to the MLK holiday makes this a possibility...hmmm...

I tried Primantis on a recent trip back home when I wasn't drunk at 2am and it's horrible. Primantis is only great after a night out at the bars. LOL

I never realized it when I lived there.

There's 3 or 4 places in the strip district that seem to have more Pittsburgh gear than you could imagine. I don't remember the names of the shops, but they are hard to miss if you're in the Strip. I always stop at a local Walmart or Kmart somewhere on my way in to the city and they always tend to have a decent mix of low end gear that's pretty inexpensive, although nothing official. I usually get my boxers, pajama pants, tshirts, hats, etc. at the Walmarts and then I'll drive my gf nuts spending hours in each of the shops in the Strip looking for the better quality and selections.

Since I don't live there anymore, I don't know the current best sports bars. But any time I go to Pittsburgh, I always stop by Wigles for some Rye Whiskey. It's the best I've found in the country. And few people know that whiskey got it's start in Pittsburgh. I always end up coming home with a couple bottles of something every trip. It's a small distillery in the Strip.

I'd recommend just walking the streets and making friends either in the Strip, North Shore, or South Side. I'm sure the entire weekend will be one big party in Pittsburgh and if you plan ahead too much, you might miss out on some random fun I'm sure you can find.

yeah, they really did a good job with the North Shore. I still hit up the strip though because I like $5 tshirts and just bumping into people and eating the food. My wife likes the strip district because they have a bunch of vendors selling artwork.
