Tennessee, Minnesota, Oakland, Miami in the snow. Only had to win one of them.

You go 8-8, you deserve to be at the mercy of other teams. KC is making the right move with their starters. Still, I don't underestimate the ability of the chargers to lay an egg. I hope it happens - but the steelers through ridiculous losses mentioned above have no one to blame.

Now now let's watch rivers flame out!

Agree completely.

I could still see the Chargers crapping the bed, but if the Steelers had taken care of their own business, they wouldn't have to rely on the Chiefs.

Knile Davis can be a dynamic RB. Chase Daniel is a veteran QB who learned under Sean Payton as Drew Brees' backup for years. Even without Brandon Albert, they Still have first overall pick Eric Fisher and veteran Donald Stephenson at tackle. Never give up hope.

You only designate 7 players inactive total. Alex smith, Jamaal Charles, Dwayne bowe, and brandon albert on offense and dontari poe, derrick johnson, and tamba halo on defense.

from ESPN.com
Among their seven inactive players are quarterback Alex Smith, running back Jamaal Charles, offensive tackle Branden Albert, nose tackle Dontari Poe and linebacker Derrick Johnson as well as two injured players, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and linebacker Tamba Hali.

Charles, Albert, Poe and Hali were named to the Pro Bowl on Friday. Smith is their starting quarterback, Bowe their leading wide receiver and Johnson one of their key defensive players.

In addition, the Chiefs are expected to start backups at all 11 defensive positions and at nine spots on offense. The only regulars expected to start are right offensive tackle Eric Fisher and fullback Anthony Sherman.

Chase Daniel will make the first start of his NFL career at quarterback.

Just a cruel, cruel ending to our year. We made our bed however.

It's tough taking something positive away from this, but I think we all have something to look forward to moving forward.

Ryan Succop won't be welcome in Pittsburgh anytime soon. A pro kicker, in great conditions pushes a 41 harder wide right.

Oh well.

Interesting that one of the FEW KC starters in the game (Succop) is responsible for their losing the game.

I don't understand why there are no coaches challenges in OT.

One more thing in a multitude of things that just don't make sense in the NFL.

You get coaches challenges during regulation, but once overtime comes there is no need for challenges. How does that make any sense?

Double Damn!!

yes losses to the titians, vikings, raiders and dolphins is the reason the season is over.why the steelers continue to struggle against bad teams is puzzling.but damn would have been nice if browns foot would have been 2 inches smaller

I agree 100%, as in my other post.

But I don't necessarily believe you can't blame injuries for your record. I told ol' Vince L. (rest his Garfield, NJ soul) a thousand times if I told him once - he was wrong about that one!

I mean we had the most miserable run of bad luck with injuries, especially on the O-line, for the 2nd season in a row. I don't make excuses like that in front of non-Steeler fans, but I do believe the cards were stacked against us. Pretty amazing to do what we did, 6-2 over the 2nd half of the season.

As many of you have stated, the steelers have no one to blame but themselves. One bad loss, one poor effort less and this game wouldn't
have mattered. However, a strong second half to the season brought hope and a few breaks kept it going. Then KC makes a good effort
and we are 8 seconds from a playoff spot only to have it taken away. Tough way to end a roller coaster of a season.

Rivers sucks !!! Succup is now a four letter word!!!

I agree that we've had a rash of inquiries on the OL but I don't think they are to blame because the line play actually got better down the stretch (hence the 6-2 record)...and vastly decreased sack total.

Hey ZipperZeppa ... being opponents in the AFC North, we might disagree on a lot of things. But in all sincerity, I agree with your insight and perspective on that one point ... your team is truly, definitely, and incontrovertibly ... a bunch of girls.

Dear Mike,

We are going to run right the entire second half.

If that Succop FG was good, we would have faced the Bengals in round 1.If we won that game, we would faced a top seeded Peyton Manning led team in round 2. Then we could have possibly faced Indy in the championship game if they beat the Chiefs and Pats. Coulda been an eerily similar 6th seed run like in 2005. If only.

I might add that there is a good chance that Seattle will be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl as well.

Very good point! Seattle was the NFC top seed in 2005 and they are top seed now too.

This thread is 187 posts long. I am typing this one-handed while scratching my head with the other!

The reason we are not going to be in the playoffs is because we lost three games we should have won, all versus teams who will be drafting ahead of us in May.

We won yesterday. 5 of our 8 losses were by seven or fewer points! These are games we were winning two years ago. We lost them all in 2013. We did NOT lose yesterday. We lost to Tennessee, Minnesota, Oakland, Baltimore and Miami when we should have won! That's why we are not there. Not because some scrub kicker or some weekend warrior referee f*cked up. It's because the Steelers did not do the work when they needed to do it.

This off-season, the Steelers have work to do, some of which will be hard and gut-wrenching. The complacency and lack of a sense of urgency I saw this year was the reason they will not be participating in this season's playoff tournament. I hope they don't just sit idly by and do nothing like they did last off-season, because the result of that was evident on the field this year! What I saw from the 2013 Steelers, while some was good, was unanimously unacceptable and it cannot happen in 2014 without a fallout.

Tennessee, Minnesota, Oakland, Miami in the snow. Only had to win one of them.

Thank you. I am sick of Steeler fans whining like babies when we didn't even post a winning record. I don't think team that don't even post a winning record deserve the play offs.

Losing to bad teams is a Tomlin trademark. As much as I griped about Cowher, especially the last season, he tended to cream the bad teams. Tomlin seems to not have the team focused when they play lesser competition. It is an obvious trend.

Cowher had his bad losses also,as in losing to 3 expansion teams. The Jags,Browns and Texans.

Suffice it to say that Bengals fans never have any trouble remembering how many rings their team has. :)
